It's 7 A.M. Christmas morning and I'm here with my wife and daughter and son-in-law. My son, 30 yrs. old, is asleep. He stayed up until 4. My granddaughter is asleep. She had a long, busy day yesterday and went to bed early. She's 5. We are thinking of last year when she was 4. We were so, so very excited because it was the first Christmas she really understood about Santa and Jesus and presents and she was elated. My daughter and son-in-law couldn't wait... at 6 AM last Christmas they rushed to her bedroom shaking her awake saying, "Santa came! Santa came! He left you presents. She got a little scared with all the excitement. She didn't know what was happening. He parents never acted this way before. What was wrong!!? So they pulled her out of bed, picked her up, and brought her to the tree and there was a little bike with training wheel and all the other boxes. WOW! Look at that! Santa came. Well, the little dumpling was so confused, sleepy and all, the commotion scared her. She clung to her mother and hid behind me and grabbed her daddy and wouldn't let go. She did know why everyone was so excited and agitated and is this Santa still here. What did he do? It took her three hours to calm down and get on the bike. It's 7 A.M. Christmas here. My son, 30, and my granddaughter, 5, are asleep. Should I get them up now?? Should I let them sleep? What would you do? What do you do on Christmas morn when ;your little ones are still asleep?

I think you son should get up by that time, however the little darling can continue sleeping. As it is, children need more sleep after an especially exhausting day or night. That’s the way we do at home…the adults all get up and start preparations for the coming celebrations while the kids catch up on sleep so that they can be all the more boisterous later in the day.

Let them sleep. No matter what day it is, sleep is one of the most important part of the 24-hour day period. No need off scaring the kids because one is excited either. I'd say 8 or 9 in the morning is reasonable. Give the family a good healthy breakfast and then dig in and enjoy yourselves. We always go to church on Christmas morning and eat lunch after, then open our gifts in the afternoon. We did this since the children were born so they know the routine by now. Everything is low-key and relaxed.

It would be good if you will not disturb their sleeping. I believe your son knows already that it is Christmas. Maybe they are tired from their work or anything. Don't worry. They will get up and your family will be able to celebrate Christmas. Let them rest for a while.
