When starting a discussion, are you asking questions or just making a statement?

Here on mylot, i prefer starting a discussion than responding because i find it more creative and more entetaining. When starting a discussion, i do it in a question and answer format because i'm very curios about the views of other people rather than just make statements about a certain topic.

I think questions are good for keeping things on topic but not that great for discussions. It could be called mylot questions and answers though, rather than discussions. Both.

Sorry, I beg to disagree. It's much easier to extend and elaborate topics when it is on a Question and Answer format rather than just plain statement. Maybe that is just my own preference.

It is ok to disagree, no need to say sorry. I disagree that you think I disagree. I agree with you that question and answer formats are good. They prompt the user to comment. They also make a fast ending to a topic. Not the length here I mean a possible discussion. One question - one answer.

Sorry, what I meant was if you start with a question, what colour is the sky. 1) Someone will answer with, the sky is blue. The end. 2) If you make a statement. I like looking at the sky. Some people may comment but some people may not know what to comment on, a question is easier. 3) A statement and question like, I like looking at the sky. What colour is it? .... might generate more responses. I think 3 is best. One may generate responses, sometimes even lots but this kind of thing is not much of a discussion? A discussion has things in it like disagree and agree, opinion and viewpoints etc. That’s all I meant.

I make a statement like details about a certain topic then ask some questions and also ask for opinions..mere statement will more likely to deleted I saw a lot of this kind of "discussions" that was deleted by the admin while asking a question alone most of the time falls to the poll type discussion. So for me the best way is to state some details about a certain topic you want to talk about then ask questions about the topic or ask fellow mylotters opinion regarding the topic.

When I'm starting a discussion. I ask a question first, then I answer my own question. Then i ask for the opinion about the topic.

yeah that's a nice way too through that way you already started two things to talk and discuss about one is your question and the other one is your own answer whether they agree with you or not and why they do so..

I do prefer to start a topic but I can never think of anything interesting enough so I mainly respond, I find so many interesting things to respond to and I have picked up on quite a few hints on things as well...

I like to tell a story, and then, because a story isn't a discussion, I will ask a question related to my story at the end. Mostly I don't make statements, because they don't lead to discussions, but I also don't just ask questions. I find mylot is a great outlet for my silly life stories, sharing them with the whole world, just my few friends who are pretty much tired of them!

Yes, for me it's hard to respond to a statement about a topic ending on a period (.) It's much easier to respond on a question and answer format.

I enjoy responding as well as starting topics, I like to read opinions on my topics and others advise as well as I like to give my opinon and hopefully offer another way for people to look at things or see how others do things. I tend to make sure there is a question in my topics as to have something for people to respond to and answer

My question might be misleading. What I meant is, when you are starting a discussion, are you just making a statement about a topic are do you prefer writing it on it on a question and answer format ending with a question mark(?). Why? Seems like a silly question but I still want some answers. Thanks.
