ESPN has published it's list of 5 top strikers of the year 2011. The strikers are Robin Van Persie (Arsenal), Christiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich) and Edison Cavani (Napoli). Do you tend to agree with this or do you think any other major striker has been missed out on this list? Cheers! This list based on the best goal scorers of the best leagues in the world: van Persie from the Premier League, Ronaldo and Messi from the Primera Division, Gomez from Germany and Cavani from Italy. In this optic, this is the most valid list, but maybe di Natale would deserve to be in front of Cavani, because he did wonderful things at Udinese. Another big surprise for me is Demba Ba, who is scoring for fun in the English League, as far as I know. I want to say that it is very difficult to make a shortlist of 5, because there are many good players in the world, and it is more difficult to make huge games if you are a member of a smaller team.

Yes, maybe that was the deciding criteria. Both of them are great strikers, and Cavani is an idol on San Paolo Stadium.

i believe the choice is right.. they are really amazing with their performance in this year,, Ronaldo and Messi is amazing in spain league..both of them compete each other and make us difficult for comparing them.. Mario Gomez become a monster for many opponent of Munchen.. and Cavani become a killing machine for Napoli.. RVP is succesfully bring Arsenal still competitive team even lost their captain, fabregas

Yes, no doubt each of these strikers have had a great 2011. Especially for Mario Gomez who really seems to have found his sweet spot this year. Cavani has had a great last two seasons now and is on the must buy list of all the top clubs in Europe this year. Cheers! Ram

I have seen Hulk in the Champions League and he looks a good player. But he plays on the flanks and is not one who gets them too many goals, though he does get some crucial ones. Cheers! Ram

I am more or less agreeable with the list except for maybe Gomes. I am not totally convinced by him.

Gomes has had a resurrection of sorts this year. You cannot argue against the goal scoring record that he has racked up this season. In fact, he is tied with Van Persie in goals per game ratio. Cheers! Ram

Well, I think all of them deserved to be in the top list..especially those well known names like CR7 and Messi, Robin Van Persie has shown great performance recently. Gomez and Cavani are also showing incredible performance on Champions League. Some names like Rooney, Aguero, Villa could be in the top ten as well but not the top five..Suarez could be one of them if he was not controversy with racism case and score more goals..Nice topic my friend..

I think another problem for Suarez is his conversion ratio. Though he has played very well and done a lot of link up play. When it comes to scoring, his goal scoring ratio per game is much less compared to the people in the list. Even Demba Ba of Newcastle is above him on that. Cheers! Ram

But here we are talking only about the striking capabilities here. So if you look at goals per game ratio, currently Ronaldo is on top. Next to him is Van Persie and Mario Gomez. But yes, if we look at play making abilities then Messi and Ronaldo would definitely be higher. Cheers! Ram

Let's not forget that Gomez is a center forward, who's main task is to score goals. Messi and Ronaldo are "fake" strikers, they are more of winger midfielders, who like to get towards goal and shoot. They are different type of players, and therefore it is very hard to make comparison between them.

Yes, and that is one of the reason why Ronaldo and Messi are awesome. They not only score goals, they also create them for their teams. Cheers! Ram
