dear friends, it has been a while since "typhoon sendong" visited part of mindanao, the island where i live. it was not a full blown typhoon, the pag-asa says, yet if you see the videos that were uploaded, you will see the devastation it has made. it has almost wiped out the city of cagayan de oro and iligan city. nearing 2 thousand have perished in just one single night. flood cascading from the mountains and it all fell in the cities mentioned. properties, houses, and people were washed out to the sea. so many women, children and elders drowned. i have been sending messages to our mylot friend here, the menace whom i knew lived somewhere in that part of mindanao and it has been 2 months since that i have not seen him go online. let's pray that he is find and his family. donations poured in but i see some of these donations are still kept somewhere and i wonder why they are not giving it all to the people now where it is most needed. europe have given tents which the people need very much. our office and other local offices have sent food items and blankets and rice thru lbc's foundation and we know these will reach the people in need. so many good hearted samaritans have given their share as well. cant we be ready for calamities? are we always going to suffer losses such as these during typhoons? is this how God punishes the people for abusing nature? how awful! ann

God is not punishing anyone. If you think God is doing something think of this--would you do that to YOUR children? No. So God would not. He is our Father, we are His children and He behaves as a loving father. He disciplines rather than punishes, teaching through adversity but not disaster. As for the funds going to the people who need them--there are many pockets to be filled on the journey of a disaster dollar. The people of Haiti got millions in relief but only a fraction of it has reached them with many millions "lost" along the way. I pray for the people hit by the typhoon and hope that our fellow myLotter, and his fellow citizens, will emerge unscathed.

hi dragon, aint mine a sad thought? guess its the depression that i feel when i see the people suffer. and i know you are right in what you say. i too am praying to give more courage to people who suffered the calamities and for the people in charge of the distribution to give what is due to the victims. ann

You mentioned here that donations are kept somewhere and does not seem to be given to those in need??!! Oh my goodness gracious! even in times of need, corruption still thrives! Can one really be ready for calamities? Hmmm... I remember Gibo Teodoro saying, one can never be ready enough for calamities. Is this how God punishes the people for abusing nature??? Hmm.. I think this is how God suggests that we forget about the RH bill. Just saying...

Hi tigeraunt Well, when it comes to Nature's fury, we are nowhere. No planning or forecasts would help. But of course, the systems need to be updated so that the people can be warned of something coming ahead. About 11 years ago, we had a typhoon - the warning was there. But no one had expected the severity of that one for sure. This is something that nothing can forecast.

hello thesids, i very well agree. there should be modern facilities to warn everyone especially when nature's fury strikes at night. the people in charge of these warnings should have learned from the mistakes of the past. ann

Dear Anny Am sad to hear this, we don't have control over natural calamities like flood, earthquake, typhoon etc, yes i too think they are more frequent these days because of our play with nature, just now hubby received SMS from one of his friends in Cebu about severe earthquake. Best of luck. Happy posting, cheers. Kalyani
