Fruit Salad Tree's

United States

I was trying to look up info on a raised planter that is called a salad tree when I came across an article on a fruit salad tree. Makes me wish such a tree could be viable in my zone. As I can see the practicality of being able to have one tree that grows several types of fruit and doesn't crowd out your entire yard. There's supposed to be one that can grow apples and pears and another that grows varities of citrus. Does anyone have one of these? how well did it do?

hi 3snugglebunnies thats a new one on me but then I do learn something every day on my lot. I would love to have had a fruit salad tree when we had our own home. We did have a large avocado tree and some orange trees. but to have a tree that grew several different kinds of fruits would be fantastic.I will be interested in what others have to say to your discussion

I'd love to have a yard large enough to support various fruit trees myself. But being in a USDA zone that gets cold temps and snow I don't know how possible it is or what is possible outside of Cherry, Pear, and Apple tree's.

This is the first time that I've heard of a tree like this, but it would definitely be something that would be interesting to have in your yard if you don't have a lot of space. For our family personally, we've never had any kind of luck with fruit trees on our property, so it is something that I've pretty much given up on. However, I recently read about the dwarf citrus trees that you can actually have inside your home and that is something that I'm thinking about getting for our home.

These things are made by grafting various types of branches to a single tree. If the fruit are the types that take the same weather, they should do well. I remember hearing about a citrus one, oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit on the same trunk.

I suppose that has to do with grafting. I have seen making the fruit better by grafting, but never having one limb with a fruit and one with another. I don´´t think I would like to see it though. It sounds like messing around with mother nature.
