Help! I've become underweight

I've been losing weight lately and I've haven't been doing anything ( no diet, no exercise). My officemate says that it's because of the stress. I got promoted from work recently and I found myself doing tasks normally done by two people. I've been working longer hours at the office so I think it contributes to my losing weight. I wasn't worried at all at first since I thought my weight was still within the normal range. However, I put myself on the weighing scale the other day and I was surprised that I already lost about 5 kilos in about 2 months. I tried to compute my body mass index and my BMI says that I'm already underweight. That was when I started to observe that my clothes have become loose. I'm worried that I'm not healthy anymore. Although lately, I've been trying to eat more and get some exercise. I hope I'll be able to keep this up until 2012.

Try to balance what you eat and work. I suggest you eat more now since you seems to be going through alot of stress.

The problem when I eat a lot is that I feel nauseous afterwards. It's really weird. I have decided to visit the doctor for a check-up.

Your loss of weight is natural. It happened to me when i was promoted at work and i guess it is caused by the stress of trying to prove that you can do the job.

Thanks for your reply. I realized that too after a few months especially when I already adjusted into my new role. I realized my weight loss was really due to the stress. Now, I think I'm bouncing back. My stomach pains have disappeared, the doctor said it might have become ulcer if I didn't get it corrected earlier. I have been making sure that I don't miss my meals and I also keep snacks with me in case i get hungry at work. It really feels great to be back on the normal track again.

Try to keep snacks in your office, so that way you can munch on them throughout the day. Also remember to drink plenty of water so you don't become too dehydrated. The most important thing is to not allow yourself to become so wrapped up in your work that you forget to eat. Just like being overweight is not healthy neither is being underweight either.

To be honest, there were actually many times that I forget to eat. But lately, I've asked an officemate to be my lunch buddy so that I'd remember to take a break. I also drink a lot of water but sometimes what i don't like about it is that it makes me want to go to the bathroom more often.. haha

If you're worried about being unhealthy then you need to visit a doctor asap for a checkup. This is a good way to start off the new year any way. Stress is probably the main factor of the weight loss and forgetting or not eating enough due to being busy. You could keep healthy snacks such as apples, oranges, granola or protein bars, or ready to go shakes such as slim fast or carnation. These items are good because they don't have to be refrigerated, and are portable and ready to eat. Good luck and take time to take care of yourself.

Thanks for the advise. I went to the doctor today and he advised that my weight loss can be caused by a variety of symptoms. He advised me to undergo some tests. I hope nothing is serious about my condition. Wish me luck!
