it's about time to ban firecrackers, Davao City should be an example.

During New Year's eve, it's been a tradition to make noise so that evil spirits will go away and positive carma/energy will enter in our house. But I think it's the opposite . From December 24 - January 1, you can see in the national news, many people where involved with FIRECRACKERS and rushed into the hospitals . Hands where destroyed (especially to children),eyes where damaged, (some are being permanently blind), and the worst part of it, some DIED just because of a useless firecracker . DAVAO CITY should be an example.. The City Government of Davao City, proclaimed a FIRE CRACKER BAN. anyone who will be caught selling/ using firecrackers will be punished. A violator would have to pay a P 1,000 fine and be imprisoned for not more than a month but less than 20 days in the first offence, while second offender will be fined P 3,000 and imprisoned for not more than three months but not less than one month. A third offence merits a P 5,000 fine and an imprisonment for not more than 6 months but not less than 3 months. Minors who will be caught will be turned over to DSWD . So why can't other Cities follow Davao City ? Because of the INDUSTRY ? which is more important, INDUSTRY or the lives of our fellow Filipinos ? I think it's about time to choose, because if this will continue, many lives will be killed, our environment will be polluted by this piece of firecracker CRAP, and many lives will be destroyed like their hands are being popped up, legs cut, etc. This is the main point why Duterte banned Firecrackers here in DAVAO CITY, to avoid disasters and He can't afford to see families crying lost their love one/ones because of FIRECRACKERS.

I am in agreement with your cause but there's a explanation why every year. We're treated with the sordid drama of little children and grown-ups. The simple explanation is that it is tradition and traditions are hard to break. Traditions give people a sense of continuity that even if it does not logically and realistically assure the hope of the person. Another thing is that people are stubborn. Apparently, pain is a great teacher. Unfortunately, not many people experience it or even try to learn from other people’s suffering. They have to personally experience it or they would just dismiss it as something that is killing their pleasure. In other metropolitan cities, politicians might hesitate to implement this kind of ban. They might feel that the people will retaliate in the elections if their pleasures are taken away from them. Some people have simple joys and they splurge in the New Years by buying fireworks. If that is taken away from them, people are going to feel that they are being censored even in the private lives. I think it is more effective if people themselves realize that they don’t need to light fireworks. A ban might be effective in implementation but it doesn’t mean that the people are happy about that law. If people do things voluntary, it might be more effective than just creating a ban on something.

I totally agree with you , people now a days especially here in the Philippines, they won't learn unless they haven't experience the negative side in a very very bad way .. and yes, it's about also to make a law about this, but I think it won't happen , because of the INDUSTRY, so called.

I agree with you, here in Melbourne Australia people got hurt as well, and what bothers me is the amount of public money spent on these things, better spent else where and it's about time the police started charging the people with illegal fire works in the suburbs, it is not as if they are hiding, follow your ears Mr policemen...and it is even on the net where the illegal fireworks can be purchased....

thanks for agreeing with me , cuz fireworks aren't really doing good in us, especially for our environment . :( that's the main issue also here in the Philippines, Illegal fireworks are much more dangerous. It can actually make a body of a human turn into pieces .
