Forged Documents/Qualifications...

Singapore
November 20, 2006 7:52pm CST
That's the newspaper headline recently, that there are students who forged their certificates in order to get a place in the local University or college. In the eye of the law, of course it's illegal and wrong...but how about in the eye of the people? (I was on the way to work this morning when there's a radio station who encourage public to call in and voice their opinion). initially i thought of 'buying' a degree but that is too disgraceful that i dismissed that idea...but what do you think?

So why do you go to College or University in the first place? Is it so you can hang a dried piece of paper on the wall and impress family and friends? If so then go out and buy your certificate and save your education money for the lawsuit. I went to College and University to learn how to something, become skilled in an area I had an interest in and to understand my purpose in life. The certificate was irrelevant and sits in a pile of papers in a box. What impresses people isnt your document but your skills and abilities.

that's true but there are some multi national companies that are looking for paper qualifications instead of skills and abilities...(pls get me right here..i only have a diploma that is genuine..lol..i did not buy any certs back, cos your respond seems to be scolding me) Thanks for your response! ;0)

No dear Im not judging you I like you too much. Im just identifying reality. I understand that companies only want to see a certificate. And this is understandable in a sense. Thats your ticket to get in the door and they know you have some knowledge about the work they need you for. After that you have to prove you have the abilities and skills. Can you imagine if companies accepted people because they walked into an office and said they dont know how to do the job but they have ambition. Sounds good but companies dont have the time or money to spare to train everyone that is hired. Ive been to College and University and then gone to work. The simple fact Ive noticed is what you learn in school doesnt even come near what real life is like. Thats the joke, and thats real life.

It is a disgrace, I agree. People study their brains out to get into college and earned their way in. People who buy diplomas are obviously stupid. How do they think they are going to get through college? Sheesh! I guess it takes all kinds, huh?

Hey, someone did it and managed to climb up the corporate ladder to the level of CEO before he got busted.. If I am not mistaken, this happened in the 90s.. The fact that he did it and managed to climb all the way up to CEO is impressive enough, though. I guess you cannot have everyday as a Sunday and one day luck will stop shining on you, thus the downfall... SO, it is always better not to have skelitons hiding in one's closet :)

it is wrong and not right either before the law and supposed to be on the eyes of the general public but sad to say that there are still a few who are doing it just to make money and for the ones acquiring it just to be able to meet some criteria which they think will make them in a better position but actually is not. nowadays corporations, companies and the likes are not that stupid to be fooled by such forgery. greetings. : )

bad idea. what if you were challanged into your knowledge with that degree. you or someone else could get cought. what would happen if a DR of medicine bought his degree. and he was your doctor. this is a very bad idea.

arrr! the one who forged the documents for them refused to do the job for those going into medical line cos they know they will be in a more serious problem if somebody got killed. Thanks for your advise!

There are wrong doings that would not come back to haunt you and there are wrong doing that could and would come back to haunt you. Imagine this, you forge a certificate and got yourself into a multinational company. After years of workign there and climbing upthe corporate ladder, you made CEO! Then some nosy reporter who heppened to take you up as a subject for his write up. he decided to so some educational searching and.. Wallah!! you never studied or obtain such certificate. CAn you guess what disgrace it would be to you? What I mention above happened to someone in S'pore quite a few years ago. Yes, he forge certificated and became a prominent figure in the business world. Got himself a CEO post as well.. until someone busted him and told the world that his PhD was forged!!! He lost everthing he took years to built.. Do not let this happen to you! If a person is intelligent and hardworking, there is no need to forge certificates, if he is not intelligent but is hard working, he do not need them forge certificates.. Look at Bill Gates, he is a varsity drop out.. and today, he is one of the richest man on earth! Instead of forging certifictes, try being honest, hardworking and witty. These attributes will bring you far in life...

Thanks so much for sharing!

certifacate - certificates
Yes I do read on that news few days ago and it was taken by our local politicians to start their debates recently. personally I think it was good for someone who really have good knowledges and skills but just don't have a certificates to earn them a livings. We know that its very hard to get a jobs if we don't have any qualifications and yet we need to make our living to support our beloves. To be frank if I don't have any yet I might buy one for me to make life better too provided I do have the actual knowledges and experiences to comply with the cert. Me too have a diploma and it took me two years to earn it....it going to be a big safe on time, money and enegy we to get real one. I have to say it was illegal in law to obtains it in such a way but in view of realistic world we facing I will think its a needs for some peoples.

Qualify to obtain a degree? - degree papers
I'm not surprised at all about this..coz this things happen all the time in our country..hmm...in my opinions, forging documents or qualifications must b a loser.... it's true dat getting in to some reputable Uni's is "something".But if one don't hav any qualifications or knowledges, it's still quite difficult to cope with the Uni's life...then wat's the point? Unless they juz want to get in there so dat they hav something to show off... There's a reason why every uni set all the admission requirements...i'm a uni student myself..my sch is quite a reputable one in the world..top 50.. something to b proud of? No!! so wat.. that i'm their current student..what's the difference? school is school..nothing so special about it....in fact it's kinda hard 4 me to cope the course..uni's education is very hard indeed n it really needs foundation b4 u can continue studying in uni.. dats y one must need the necessary qualification in order to b able 2 cope in the uni....if one really so desperate in getting to uni...then fight for it...short cut is not the way out...

In India, there are people who not only give students fake degrees, but also let them choose the degree, marks and specialization! Moreover, there are officials in top Universities who accept bribes to change a student's marks and records "OFFICIALLY!" It's no wonder most employers don't care about grades.

It's really amazing that people would go to extremes, to say the least forge their certificates or documents, just to be recognized in the community. At least you've dismissed the idea my friend, cause it's an awfully disgraceful act especially when caught (what if not hehe). Getting a degree is hard but at least you will be soon be proud of your accomplishments.

Buying a degree is really stupid, but I know they're offered out there. I've done fine without a degree, but I had a great education while in school. I also have taken many college courses and even earned my CPS designation (Certified Professional Secretary), which helped me get a raise in pay on several jobs I've had. It's much better to study and learn about the profession you want to enter than to buy your way in and maybe prove you know so little about that field.

In the long run you'd only be cheating yourself out of the knowledge. Always learn for the sake of knowledge, and the money will come after. Unless you're a teacher, that is, but that's another long story...

I think it's despicable that a person would fake their history or anything like that to get a job. How can a person be trusted if they start out as a lie. I've read about the same things, what's worse is that I used to check the rants and raves section on Craigslist here in DFW, about six months ago a few people were posting five things that no one knew about them, and I'd say about sixty or so people participated in it, which isn't much by comparison to the population here, but still, about 15 of those 60 said they had faked certifications and degrees on their resumes to gain their current executive jobs. Just terrible.

im sure it could be very tempting to people who are in a bad situations in life, but your still not going to actually be able to do the job if they havent actually learned the skills by doing their degree. I have 3 years of a 4 year degree and didnt have enough money to finish my degree so i could understand the urge just to have it but when i finally finish some day at least ill be able to have pride in myself for finishing. If you cant go home at night and be proud of yourself and have the self-esteem that comes with following the law and being a good person then you will have nothing positive to contribute to those around you including your children and spouse
