I was reading today's news, and found an interesting article. As the title says it, since Alcohol and Tobacco are the best selling items in the Philippines, it is time to raise it taxes so that we can little by little pay the World Bank our debts. If I am not mistaken, World Bank stopped lending money to our country because we have not paid back even a single cent to them since Estrada regime or is it much earlier? Well, the point is, I think it is time to raise the taxes of the ones which causes a lot of problems in our country (Health Problems). You can see it everywhere the cigarettes, and when people are stress they drink till their heart is contented. And the next thing they know they are already in the hospital having a check up. Well, if you have notice the distribution of budgets, there is like only 1% for the Health Department which is one of the major departments to be focused on. I am no smoker, but I drink when there are occasions. If this comes true, there will be less smokers and less drinkers. Or at a stick of cigarette is now P6.00 , and a bottle of beer will be like P40.00 . But, I am having this weird feeling that this will not be approved for some reason, but I just really hope it does so that there will be less smokers and drinkers. Seriously, health problems starts with this and I want people to live healthy. And here is the question: If approve taxes will go up in this 2 departments, will you stop smoking and drinking and use your money to save up for important things?

It would be a good idea to increase the taxes that would be collected from such things and even higher when they are exported to other countries that also patronize these things that we can already consider as vices so that not only would it earn much from the country where it came from but it would also earn much more when it is consumed in countries. Of course, with all taxes considered, any increase should be okay as long as the taxes being added is guaranteed to be used in the projects that would really benefit the tax payers. The reason why most citizens don't look forward to any of the increase is that they mostly don't experience the improvements which they should be experiencing through paying taxes. If increase of taxes occurs, it should also be logical that an increase in salary happens but surprisingly, it doesn't happen like that. We end up questioning why something like this doesn't happen so we eventually get to blame how the government is managing things (^_^") For the follow up, I don't smoke so I really don't need to consider. I recently have stopped drinking as well so I am pretty much setting aside extras for nice things that I might want (^__^ )

I wonder at first why I have to pay taxes when I see the same thing on the streets with no improvements and all. Now, as much as I want to not pay the taxes because it a waste of money giving it to someone instead using it for the good everybody they keep it on their pockets which is not cool. Money is the root of evil for them. ^_^

At one point, it is a responsibility as citizens to pay our taxes, like tithes to institutions where we gather our spiritual guidance. We should not be worried where the money that we give would go to what use because our duty is only as far as giving what we are suppose to give. Of course, paying taxes is not a universal law compared to tithing yet, the law of cause and effect is still present with it which should make us worry less about how our money is used, be it in tithing or in taxes 'cause the universe will give what is due to those who misuse them than to actually put use to which was given to what intention. An example would be how one's abuse of political power as a government official who just happens to garner such amount of wealth and then eventually has multiple case charges while being hospitalized Well, Money is not really the root of evil per say. It's one's Love for Money which makes it the root of Evil for them.

I think it is a good idea that taxes go up for these two items. First the governement will get more money from the best selling items and second because taxes has increase demand will be decreasing therefore less people will have less health problems
