What is your opinions of Amazon's Kindle?

I received a Kindle for Christmas and I have to say I am completely in love with it. I wasn't sure if I would be able to part with not having an actual book in my hand but I love that I can download a book at any time of the day and that I can take hundreds of books with me if I wished. I also love the fact that I can get classic books such as those by Dickens or Austen for free which I might not have read if I would have had to buy them. Does anyone else there have a Kindle? Do you prefer it to normal books?

My daughter was given an Amazon kindle, for being the top 6 among the full scholars in first year of Medicine. She brought it with her when she went home for the Christmas vacation and showed it to us. The pages seemed real papers and you can increase the font size should you want. That's why my father will be buying one also for himself. Though , he instructed my niece to search for one who has a light, so he can read it in the dark, when he wakes up at night. My daughter is very happy to have it. She loves reading the books.

I'm going to invest in a cover that has a light built into it as that is the only disadvantage I can really see at the moment with it! Your daughter is very lucky to have won one!

Yes, she's lucky to be on the 6th place of top 10 of the whole Medicine batch. The top 10 were the only ones given the Amazon Kindle.

I don't have a kindle but I have a kobo which is similiar. I really like it for regular books such as novels. But if its a diet book, cook book, or a book that you'll want to refer to a lot I don't care for it. But as for novels its wonderful! I can take it to the laundrymatt, Dr. office, in the car. There isn't the bulk of a book, you don't have to mark your page (it automatically goes to where you left off) fits in my purse no matter the size of the book. On the downside, unless your one to be the first to buy a book you can save alot if you buy used books. Although I like the ereader, I still perfer the actual hard copy book.

Yes I can see why it wouldn't be as good for something like a cookbook, mine only has novels on it at the moment. I would be worried if I had it near me when I cook as I might spill something on it!

I only heard the name kindle a couple of days ago, I had never heard of it before, a friend of mine was given one for Christmas and she asked me if I knew how to work it, I had never heard of it before...Sounds like a good idea but I think a lot of avid book readers don't think reading from anything other than real books is really reading although I guess this will change with time.

See I always thought I would be like that, thinking that paper books are better but I have to say since I got my kindle I have completely changed my opinion! Since I've got it I've been able to read more books that I would have normally because I always have my Kindle with me, so I can just pick it up whenever and also because I can get so many books for free!

I think it's a very convenient way to read especially if you like reading anywhere everywhere, you won't have to bring a big stack of books to wherever you want to go, just bring out our Kindle from you little purse and everything is very easy.

I was worried I would have problems looking at the kindle screen because I have problems reading large bits of text on my computer but the way that the screen on the kindle works there is no problem at all, it's just like I was reading a book! I still have books to take with me in the bath though

now that the library offers books through the different e-readers I am more on the bandwagon than I was a year or so ago. My husband bought a nook color when they were on sale a while back. My mother in law just got rid of her kindle for the Kindle Fire, so now I have a Kindle of my own. I still like to hold a book and read, but for traveling it is great.

I can definitely see the advantage for when travelling. When I've been abroad on the past I've had to take loads of books with me and then end up buying even more once I'm there but now I can just load my Kindle up with as many as I like!

I got a Kindle a couple of Christmases ago, and I love it. I don't prefer it to regular books, though. I think both are great. There's still something about holding a real book in my hands. But, I like that with the Kindle I can have multiple books with one device. The free classics are also good. Sometimes I waver on whether I want to read one, and I know I'm not going to buy a book I'm not sure about. But, I put them on the Kindle without having to worry about wasting money. I've also read some Austen on the Kindle. Emma was the last one I read.
