Moviemaker Alfred Hitchcock appears to have drawn some inspiration for one of his classic thrillers, "The Birds," with the help of toxin-producing algae. This article was very informative. It tells how Alfred Hitchcock called a local newspaper after they reported that thousands of crazed seabirds were sighted on the shores of North Monterey Bay in California. The birds, called sooty shearwaters, regurgitated anchovies, flew into objects and died on the streets. The article goes on to say that the frenzy helped inspire Hitchcock's 1963 thriller "The Birds," which was adapted from a short story by Daphne du Maurier. If you get the chance read the whole article. It's not very long, but I found it to be very interesting. I have seen this movie many times & I'm sure I will see it many times more. It's a classic, so if you haven't seen it yet then you really need to rent it. You wont be disappointed.

The article sounds interesting. I have seen "The Birds" several time. It was quite the movie. I don't think I will ever forget it. I would also suggest that if they have not seen the movie they should rent it. It is well worth it.

Yes I have to say it definitely grabbed your attention and held it, you would be so into the movie that when the birds attacked you literally jumped.

Yep that is so true. I think that's what always made his movies so good, The Birds especially. You never knew when something was going to happen.

Thanks for the information. I wonder if you would mind sharing a bit of the learnings from the movie for the benefit of your pals who might not find it in their local movie stores.

I remember the movie "The Birds"! The first time I saw it I was about 12-13 years old and I was on the edge of my seat and my legs were bouncing up and down! I was so scared! I didn't know that he took his idea for this movie from a real life account of some crazy birds! That's interesting!

It was a town that he lived closed to which I thought was interesting. I know what you mean about this movie keeping you on the edge of your seat. No matter how many times I watch this movie I still let out a scream or two whenever the birds attack LOL
