We put a new counter top in the kitchen this year

During the long cold winters of Minnesota we usually take a trip to the tropics. This year we decided to upgrade our kitchen! (I know, we watch too much HGTV). We now have a huge range and oven with a matching refrigerator. They are black and stainless steel. We also put in a stainless steel stove vent and fan followed by a black granite counter top. Every single company that installed these things said we will love the return on the investment....$6000? Our hope is that when we retire 10 years from now it will be both easy to sell and get more money for the house. Have you ever skipped doing something fun and relaxing to invest in a more comfortable future?

Congrats on your new kitchen! I am planning on putting in granite countertops with my tax return refund this year. Cannot wait. I think it does increase the value of your home - plus you get the enjoyment of living with it too!

It is cool! Then there is "curb appeal" as well! One day everyone will end up selling their home. People will remember the kitchen and be drawn to it! We also found out our cabinets are made very well and of Douglas Fir. "Not cheap".

I watch way too much HGTV too! I would skip having fun if I could do improvements on my house! I did have a staycation this fall with the intentions of getting a few things done around here....but by the time I got going the week was already over!

We loose a lot of time up at the summer place. But we don't care!

It is lovely that you put some new counters in your kitchen. Your oven sounds very good too. I like granite and stainless steel. I don't think I could ever skip a trip overseas because doing that sort of thing is very important to me. I love traveling to tropical places in the world. I have been to St Lucia, the Seychelles, the Maldives, Samoa, French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Last year I went to the Caribbean coastline of Colombia. This year I will be traveling to Argentina and Chile. I got a new kitchen put in October 2010. You see I moved to my bungalow that August. I hope that your kitchen makes you very happy.

Isn't it lovely to travel? I'd love to see Bora Bora! Of course Australia, the Alps, and even Iceland but the tropics call to me the hardest! I get to enjoy my kitchen for about 10 years, but I'm still kinda sad I missed out. We've lived here for 13 years and my husband loves his 35 bonsia trees and our two dogs as well as his work shop! The best I can do is get him to start downsizing right now because this huge house is becoming more than we can handle. We raised our three boys here and they love it too! They love the family holidays and we can easily accommodate 30 or more people for holiday meals and parties. The problem is we aren't getting any younger. Hubby hates sharing walls with anyone so a condo or townhouse would not be in our future.
