It was a 12 year old 5 cubic feet National refrigerator and it's one of our first owned appliances. It not freezing anymore! Well, after 12 years serving us... it's not frustrating to replaced it now. Hubby said that appliances are efficient up until 10 years. I think our ref would still be running if not sinked in the flood that we experienced year 2004 when we were still renting in that place. Goodthing it lasted 8 years more after that flooding :p ... More good news is, we are not living in that flooded place anymore *LOL. Are your appliances last that long too? Will you be frustrated if yours will crushed down after using it for quite long though?

We had an Amana refrigerator and it lasted over 25 years. I was not happy when it broke down, but then we got a better one, which I hope will last just as long..:)

I know, and my Kenmore washer lasted at least 30 years, except I do have to admit, if something minor went wrong with my washer, my husband did fix it...:)

hahahah you are expecting your TV to die soon! Funny huh My TV was as aged as my fridge but I can't see any hint that it will die soon *LOL... Oh wait, I remember 2 years ago, it was then repaired. Picture tube problem. And it was 10 years old when it crushed... uh uh! It's really efficient within it's 10 years of using!

12 years is pretty good for an appliance. I hate to say it but don't be suprised if your replacement conks out before it is 10 years old. New ones don't seem to be built to last as well. One tip. If the compressor is still running - ie. you can hear it humming - it may have developed a 'bubble' in the pipes. Empty the fridge, unplug and turn it upside down for a few minutes then right it again. Doing this allows the 'bubble' to rise in the refrigerant and clear itself. There are of course a hundred and one other reasons it has stopped (blown fuse for instance) but it is worth trying.

What's an advice smacksman! I'll tell it to my husband to try... Well, thanks! Seems you have a big knowlegde in trouble shooting. My husband just got a little. We got it serviced but we thought it's best if we'll buy a new one. So we bought one now :) Have fun MyLotting smacksman!

It's really frustrating when those things crushed down. But stillm your fridge served you well. Our appliances last long too. My mom is actually so proud of her gas range. She said it's 15 (or 16, I forgot) years already with her and still functioning well. When we bought that black gas range, days later my dad won in a church raffle which my mom entered under my dad's name... it's a white gas range which is exactly like the one we bought. So they had to sell the white one. And up to now, this black one still looks new since the it has a dark color and she cleans it regularly. Our fridge just gave up 3 years ago. I think it lasted for 9 years.
