You should have bought a new computer with Linux installed on it. There would be no setting up required at all! And you would have got it about $100 cheaper. No viruses to worry about. No license fees. No problems.

Ugh.. it is interesting. I think you should inform me about how I could install ubuntu, because I want to try linux before I get it.

No need to install - a live CD is good enough to try Linux. A little slow of course, but you'll see what it can really do that way. And you can't write to a CD so you'll find out what Linux can do without any setup! Try a few different versions and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We have a person staying with us for awhile. He has a his own laptop that has Windows 7. I went to set the wireless router info so he could use it. I have XP. With mine, I had it set up in ten minutes. I thought it would be the same with his. I don't remember exactly why, but it took me more like twenty minutes. It just sweemed like it was more difficult. I think that XP is the best operating system Windows has. I have a feeling it might be marketing. I heard alot of bad things from alot of people about Vista, and I think they had to come up with something and they came up with Windows 7. I agree with you. They should have stopped with XP.

i agree with you, Setting up with XP is much more easier than in windows 7. I've encountered the same problem before. I'm still using Windows XP. About stopping XP, well, i don't think that they will stop making new OS. It's business, they should come up with some new ideas to market.

I am no good with change and I fight it everytime with my Techy, I loved xp but I have finally gotten used to Windows 7 and I now love it but guess what my techy is trialling Windows 8 so I think it won't belong before change is going to happen again soon...

My old computer which I still have had XP and my new one has Windows 7. I had to get a new one because some virus or something messed up the old one and I could no longer connect to the Internet with it and the computer shop could not fix it without wiping everything(and even that might not have worked). Since I have a lot of stuff on it I didn't want to lose and it was old I got a new computer. My problems with Windows 7 have come from the way folders and files are handled. One particular example is that it is much more cumbersome and time consuming to upload photos since it will not return to the folder for the next photo file but starts several folders earlier in the hierarchy. The other problem was that some of my software and my scanner are not supported on Windows 7. So I got a KVM switch which allows me to switch my monitor and mouse from one computer to the other. This means I can go back to the old computer to use the software and my scanner there. On the plus side my new computer is an HP which I like better than my old Dell.

I know a lot of people who rather like Windows XP and think that everything after it was the absolute worst. Windows 7 is fine, but the problem is, a lot of the newer computers that you get store bought aren't able to handle the newer versions of Windows for whatever reason. There is just a lot of things about it that causes those computers to slow. I did like Windows XP but Windows 7 is more than fine. Of course, there are a lot of people who really have not been happy with the later forms of Windows and the upcoming Windows 8 is going to be something that is going to continue that trend. Then again, the speed that Microsoft tries to force out their Windows, before the average user finds their feet, is rather alarming.

I personally think Windows 7 is better. The speed would depend on what computer you have. And you're probably used to XP, that's why it seems better. I prefer Windows 7 because it's easier on the eye, it as a much more modern look. As an artist, that is a pretty big deal to me. It also has more features. You can read about them on Microsoft's website here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features
