Is anybody out there running Lynux os. that I might ask a couple of questions. I'm running it and this is the first time I've used something other than windows and a lot of things are quite different. If anyone knows the software and wouldn't mind helping me out with a couple things, I'd be very appreciative. Also, I bought a new mouse pad today and it doesn't work. I'm laughing cause how can it not work? I can not navigate the cursor anywhere...I tried both sides too. Does anyone know why?

Mouse pad not working? I would rather say throw it off, if your table is smooth enough why need a mouse pad for mouse? Which flavour are you using? Ubuntu, opensuse or something else, every flavour has there website and there forums through which we can ask questions and get answers for it. I do use linux and I am great fan of this OS ...

Hey Arunr Ya know, this guy posted this computer on "Free Cycle.com" If you are not familiar with it, (wow, I'm watching David Blane on tv doing street magic, he is freaking me out..unreal) ANYWAY, Free cycle is a web site that people post things that they no longer want, but they are too good to throw away so they post it and then gives it to whoever responded first.) It's a great site and I have got a lot of really cool stuff from it. So this guy posted this computer, the entire system, free for the asking. I emailed him as the laptop I've been using for about 2 years was having a lot of sick days if you will, and was starting to cost me money. I told him I could really use the desktop and even though he had 38 responses to the post, for some reason he gave it to me..I went and picked it up the next day, he wasn't home. He left it on his porch for me. I took the computer and gave him my laptop. He was a retired engineer for IBM who fixes up computers that have seen better days and then gives them to kids. Well, I'm no kid, but I'm gorgeous..ha ha ha, no really, I took the system home, set it up and surprise surprise, it is not a windows os, its Lynx which I know nothing about. Months later, I still don't know very much about it, but I'm learning. I have absolutely no idea what "flavor" I'm using. When the system boots, it says Lynx Mint..does that mean anything to you? Anyway, I got the mouse pad thing fixed a long time ago...It truly was a defective pad..sounds stupid but it was! My dest is not smooth enough to run mouse on, it just wont work.. I'm glad you responded to me however cause I'm always trying to figure this damn software out. There are things I like about it but there is a lot I don't..I'm a windows child. Can I add you as a friend for future questions?? Please?? Thanks in advance..I've gotta go..David Blane is not levitating..wow.holy God He's scaring me!

First of all it's Linux.. I am using it.. it's really very good os to work with.. yeah it's little difficult to work with but you can go with it with internet help.. if you want to use linux for listening music and videos better to go with windows.. linux is mainly designed for working as servers and also other programmatic aspects.. you can get linux softwares freely and easily from the net.. can't post sites here due to mylot restrictions.

First of all, it's Linux, not Lynux. I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science and my university uses it as the base operating system in the computer laboratories. It's quite a handful if you've never been outside the realm of Windows but it's pretty easy after a couple of uses. I both have Windows 7 and Ubuntu (a hybrid of Linux) on my laptop installed. The sounds, keys, and the mouse works great. It might be because of an error in your installation. I have never tried installing Linux on a desktop but I heard the installation is fast and there is no need for drivers installed because there is a built-in driver for the mouse in it.

Hi CrOss First of all, thanks for responding. I don't have any idea why I've been spelling Linux with a Y, so thanks for straightening that out for me! I got this whole system from a retired IBM engineer. He posted it on Freecycle and I was lucky enough to get it. He even included a beautiful flat screen monitor which was still in the box, never used. He said that he took Windows out and installed Linux with no problem. He even installed it on my laptop. That gave him a little trouble but eventually he successfully did it. I am running Linux Mint. Have no idea of what the "mint" designates but you probably do. Could I add you as a friend so that I could ask you a couple of questions. I promise I won't be a pain in the neck. Or, do you know of any websites that talks in "laymans" terms about the o.s.? Again, Thanks

There should be no problem in linux when changing mouse. Try for USB mouse. However If you have no budget problem, then go for "Windows". Using linux is free but the free will bite a lot of time configuring things which can be esily done in windows.

Hi nahidbd I am so sorry that everyone misunderstood what I said about the mouse "pad" It has nothing to do with linux or drivers or anything. What I was saying was that I bought a new mouse "pad" you know, the pad you put your mouse on to navigate your cursor around. That is what doesn't work. I was kind of joking when I said "How can it not work", but it doesn't and still doesn't I was wondering if anybody knew why the pad will not work when I put my mouse on it..thats all. Sorry for the confusion..still wondering..I only paid 2 bucks for it so I guess you get what you pay for..as always!!

You could try booting into CLI interface with CTRL+ALT+F1, if it doesn't work, you can back to graphical session using CRL+ALT+F7
