Do you think optimism is natural in some people?

Almost all psycho exams I've tried to take so far always brought back results suggesting that I am a very pessimistic person. So I tried to read all the books I can to turn my mentality around - to be positive and optimistic. But it seems like it takes a lot of effort on my part. Do you think optimism is really natural among some people and had to be learned by some? Because I noticed how easy it is for other people to be positive about things. What should we do to attract more good vibes? Do I need to learn feng shui, wear charms??? well it's against my religious beliefs that we should rely on God for grace but it seems like I'm really a jinx.

Iam also a pessimistic person depending on the situation. There is no need of feeling your self with false positive ideas or thought while the negative outshines the positive ones. It is better to somehow pessimistic as you rarely get dissapointed when things turns ugly.

I want to learn to expect the best but learn to bite into the bright side if something does not turn out the way I expected. That's how I see a positive person should act and do.

That good point. Learning to accept whatever the outcome will be. I think this is the hardest thing for most people.

I'm not sure if I can really do that! I bet that would be an adventure though. I would love to come to Australia and experience that kind of euphoria that the place has to offer.

i do know people like that and i DO believe that we should rely on God for grace and learn to be content with everything we have and pray about everything that we think should change.

it is a personality thing, I know I'm not optimistic and I suffer from depression I'm also introverted, so I have had to work really hard to be less introverted.

I started working on my introvertedness at 14, so I've had 44 years to work on it, and I still am working. I have never had too much trouble in a written format, except when I try to record what I do from day to day, most of which is terminally boring!

Its interesting when I'm doing it, but if I were to write it: Put a row of corks on the door today. Dull...

I understand we all have our own comfort zones and it's never good to try and force yourself to act in a way that you are not comfortable of. Maybe a litle socializing occasionally would not hurt. Im sure itll make you feel better on some days. Correct me if im wrong but were you the one with the cork door project? Doesnt seem boring to me.

I believe that optimism and pessimism are learned at a very early age. It seems that the trait for one or the other is usually handed down from one or both of a person's parents. If one parent is an optimist and the other a pessimist, a child usually takes after the one with he most identifies. I'm not say ing that a person cannot change when he or she is older, but as you said,  it is difficult.

Then I must learn to grow out of it then. I simply don't wanna get stuck to this kind of attitude where all my views of the future are dark, unproductive, and frustrated.

It's very easy for humans to assume the face of victum. The old poor me, mixed with the life is against me attitude. This seem to be an easy way for many of us to expalin our lives. But if we can face up to this and realize it is a point of view, that what we feels protects us from the responsibility of taking charge and redirecting our mental attitude. Once you have come to the place where you sit yourself down and say, no matter what happens that I cannot control, I can control how I react to life. Now you know you have a choice, look for only positive energy and base your life responses on this. There are as many ways to do this as there are people. I am attracted to healing so that is the direction I am headed. A side benefit of this is that you can drive negative people crazy. You then get responses of "O you never see anything but the positive side." My response is you bet your bootie that is my goal. A smile first thing is the morning and a thank you to higher power for another day, helps me get started. Don't get me wrong I still face many days in sever pain, but that lets me know I am alive and that beats the alternative.

Hi savy, what you wrote here is really a wonderful thing to ponder on. Yes, we cannot choose the circumstances around us, but we can choose how we could react. I'll really try to work on that. Right now my goal is to improve my career and Im pretty much working on it. As far as health is concerned, I am afraid that I cannot fully address it unless I find the means to afford the steps I wish to take for better health.

I know many people who are pessimistic but the are certainly not "Psycho" psy·cho noun \'si-(?)ko\ plural psychos Definition of PSYCHO : a deranged or psychopathic person —not used technically — psycho adject I am very optimistic and that has helped me get past some very unhappy times in my life. I always look on the bright side of life and has been told by some of my pessimistic friends that my constant optimism can be very annoying.

Hi whiteheather, thank you for the clarification about the word psycho. I understand that other people may mistake it for something else. What I meant though was, PSYCHOLOGICAL exam. Was too lazy to type the entire thing. Sometimes optimism can appear unrealistic to other people but it's great that it has done you so much good. Keep it up.

Some people carry with them hopes of bright happenings all the time, to a level beyond one's expectations. They would never give up their ideology of optimistic faith. It is the hope of theirs that everything will ultimately turn for the better that keep them in good stead throughout their living.

Seems to me there's a fine line between that and being simply hardheaded. *shrugs But I think it's way better to be stubborn towards positive than stubborn towards negative.

I believe this is an attitude that we can acquire through constant practice. Try to restrain yourself from thinking negative thoughts and focus only on the good side. If you feel like you're going the negative way, get a hold of yourself and steer your mind to positive thoughts. Go out! Enjoy nature! Delight yourself with simple things that can make you happy and for sure, before you know it, you've change your perception from pessimistic to optimistic. Do not rush yourself 'cause it took me years before I acquired such happy disposition in life! Good luck!

I think that it does come natural in a sense, but there are those who observe a lot of things around them and all of the potential bad things that might happen. There is also a built in feature in a lot of people that analyzes everything that happens. They see the worst possible outcomes. That is not a completely bad thing, but some people take things too far. Of course, there are some people who are simply realists. They see things that are all and really there are a lot of bad things to think about. A lot of good things to say the very least. Optimism is really something that does seem to come naturally. However whatever experiences and whatever thoughts, may shift that down to optimism, pessimism, and realism.

Since you mentioned realism, maybe I am more into it than either of the two extremes. Sometimes though I lean more toward the negative reality rather than focusing on the good points and that makes me a bit of a pessimist.

Hi friend Indeed some people are born optimist others are not so lucky but you can always try to change by thinking positively, listening to positive people, participating in community service, helping people in need.I am an optimist by nature and from the date I started my career I am hand to mouth but I have always remained positive and am certain that so long as I try Honestly to improve my status, I will definitely succeed one day. You should not worry for things which are not in your control instead you should concentrate on things which are under your control and proceed further.Lastly you can try meditation as an effective tool to overcome your problems naturally.

You can wear religious charms, learn feng shui if you are really superstitious Yeah , I believe optimism is a natural among certain people. For example , most people who are happy and smile most of the time are optimistic , however a small portion of them may not be , psycho exams can help to a level , but natural optimism is something beyond books ;D

I think that being optimmistic depends on your personality. But i believe that there are some ways that might help you to think differently and to be less negative. If you really want it then i believe that you can succeed it eventually. Good luck

That is true. Like what most self-help articles say, "focus on what you want, not what you want.". I still can't help expecting the worst though. Just this time around, I'm not letting it paralyze me to do something

Feng shui is full of rules and taboos. Numerous taboos are difficult to tell you in one article, but main concepts should be definitely the rule

hi Theresaaiza oh I do think so as I married the eternal optimist 'and me a pessimist, He did change me a lot but still in many ways' I retained some pessimism and perhaps we all need a little. I mean we can not all go around all day every day when real troubles strike going " happy happy, joy, joy" as people would think one was nuts. There are some who are natural optimists and some marry pessimists and turn them into more optimistic people.but we do need to use common sense and when the house catches on fire call the fire dept and do not stand there saying oh it will go out any minute.there is a place for optimism but not in an emergency like when your house is on fire lol lol

I think some of us are luckier than others .I have noticed that I have friends who seem to get everything they wanted and their lives turned out exactly how they wanted .This is in sharp contrast to mine which seems to go wrong with the slightest changes in the seasons . I guess persons who normally have a lot of things go right are naturally able to believe that more things will go right for them and the increases their optimism .Mind you I am not sure if things go right by virtue of the strong faith they had in the first place but those people are normally more optimistic . I think you may have to search for things that have gone right in your life and use that to change your philosophy. I thiknk if you can start identfifying things that have gone right in your life then that wil set the right framework for more things to go right .This will inturn feed into your faith and see a multiplication in your blessings and optimism
