hi guys just wondering. i mean i should have corrected the topic. this interest would be full on discussion during IPL season.it does well during international matches involving india. but hardly any thread on the sri-lanka vs south africa tour, the big bash league and certainly nothing on domestic tournaments like ranji trophy or something. ok leave out the big bash.it will be another money-making tournament. what about domestic matches? batsmen hitting centuries after centuries and bowlers getting 6 wicket hauls and 8 wicket hauls. sure indians hog this thread too much but i would personally love to know about domestic tournaments in other countries. how else people would know about the new exciting talents from domestic circuit? some people from commentary are talking about someone called wade should replace haddin in the next test but not many know about him.i certainly dont. final point. are we actually behaving like Indian selectors?

It'd be great watching domestic matches but you know.. the thing is that there isn't much media coverage of it, only score are updated from time to time and then there is announcement of schedule for the next match... Its media that plays an important role in getting the crowds to the stands. But there seem to be very little enthusiasm in discussing those Ranji Trophy matches in any of those news channels.

you know players like sachin, dravid, laxman dont play all form of cricket. wouldnt it be a nice idea if they represent their ranji team atleast in 2 matches so it attracts the crowd and media? i mean how else people are gonna find the next tendulkar if they ignore domestic circuit?

Ofcourse... few of our players still do. Whenever a player is dropped from the team then he moves on to make a mark in Ranji Trophy so that the selectors would rethink about him. But you see there is a greater risk of injuries involved in playing both domestic and national level tournaments. Thats probably the reason why big names make rare appearance in domestic level..

Actually, in 90s even national team players used to play Ranji, duleep trophy matches most of the time. I remember Sachin playing for Mumbai and Kumble, Dravid for Karnataka etc. But slowly that trend has changed and now there is almost no participation by those who play in team India. May be schedule and number of games increasing is the reason. And adding to that IPL etc. But at least they should play in a couple of matches or there should be a rule that one should play minimum number of Ranji matches per year! Are we expecting too much from BCCI and players who feel they are above domestic cricket?

you are talking about domestic cricket, right? but when you will follow those matches you will know about their standard. in ranji the slow batting pitches are made. result, a batsman is hitting century, double century. but the main problem is not being solved i.e being uncomfortable in fast pitch. so you can see a double century hitting batsman is being hardly able to reach even half century(for example rahane) when going overseas. so is there any value of such tournaments????

Really? You're interested in our lousy state cricket? Sure they make tons of runs & so forth, but I'd be the last to admit that the South Australian Redbacks have any talent at all worth discussing here! International matches are the talk of the town because you don't know just how good you really are unless you go out there & make a magnificant display of beating other countries' teams. I don't know much about Wade, but Haddin's got a big mouth & should say as little as possible to the media. Criticising India like he did was sad & he did a lousy job of it too. Those young lads play really well, but they're very prone to injuries.
