How do you find something that you have misplaced?

Do you often misplace things? Especially important things? I often do. I do not really lose them, sometimes I just forget where I place them. To be able to find whatever I have misplaced, I would ask if someone saw it. Or, I will just pause for a while, think well where I could have kept it or where I went with it. What exactly do you do to find something that you have misplaced?

I do this all the time. I try to clean everything so I put stuff away and then I do not remember where I put it and my boyfriend yells at me all the time about it. Earlier last year we bought a water filter for our kitchen sink and the washer part I put somewhere and then the water filter broke so the sink was squirting out water in a weird direction for months and my boyfriend just found the piece a couple of days ago. Most of the time I know when I clean I do keep things that look important or pieces that might go somewhere. But I do have this bad habit.

I try to think back to what I have been doing during the day and whether I had the missing/mislaid item with me at the time. Using this technique I can usually pinpoint the missing item fairly quickly.

I've begun a new thing which is to put things somewhere thinking logically. If I think before putting something somewhere, where is THE most logical place it should be, if I later cannpot find it, I can think where is the most logical place to put it and start looking there. I've learned over the years once I look for something then find it, I should always put it back where I found it! Too many timesw of going to that place and - not-finding-it has taught me this. If I cannot find something I say a little prayer for it please to turn up then I forget about it, and it usually turns up. If it's an important paper, I don't really forget about it, but relax about it for a while and usually it will occur to me where it is.

Yes I often do too. I also try to do the things you do Think about the last thing I placed the stuff I was looking for. If I still can't see it I would stop looking. After a few days or sometimes months... I would see it without even searching for it.

Yeah, sometimes these things just show up when we are no longer looking for them

I am legally blind. The best thing for me to do is to remember where I pit things. That way if I can't see an item I may have misplaced, I can find it through memory.

I try to retrace my steps. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Dear dolce_vita normally when I misplace things I first ask myself where or when did I use this last time and where did I see it last time. In most cases this leads me to where the item is. There are two things I cant misplace, thats keys and wallet resp. plastic cards as they have a set place where I put them.

Hi! I hate it when I misplace something or forgot where I put them only to find out that it's just right in front of me, ready to bite me. When I misplace something I think hard about the last time that I used it. Only then will I be able to remember where I put it. If I can't remember the last time I used it, then I'm doomed.

I think that I have not misplaced anything too important. Of course there have been times where I have gotten flustered for some reason and I had to put something down to go off to do whatever, and a few hours later, when I think about it, I realize that the thing that I put down, I don't have it with me any longer. It is a rather vexing thing for sure. I hope that it is just in the general area and no one else has picked it up. If it is my house, than it is rather easy. There have been times where I have left the remote control on the kitchen counter, because I had carried it into the kitchen for me, for reasons that made sense at the times. I just try and figure out where I had been and where it might have been.

I retrace the activity i've done for that whole day to see where I could have left it. One other thing that helps is to think hard about when and where you last seen the item that you've misplaced. This gives you a starting point as to where to search. Lastly, if nothing helps, I just go on with my day, and most of the time the thing miraculously appears to me again. o.o

I've misplaced a few things a couple of times, and even with the most diligent efforts, I can't find them. What I usually do is I go outside the house for a few minutes and calm my nerves down. Then I go back in and almost always I do find what I've misplaced.

I start to ask others if they have seen the item i lost and then try to find it by myself.I try always to remember what exactly i have done before misplaced the item. Some times i am distracted or watching TV while i am doing my house works so i often misplace things. The better is to try to remember my moves before loosing it. I often loose my eyeglasses ,so i hung these around my neck with a cord and the problem is now solved. HA HA

I know it is just somewhere. I would be thinking positively when I believe I forgot a thing. First thing would do is to really think deep and think of possible places where I have put them. Then after that is where I will do something in order to find it.

I usually misplace things in the office and at home like keys, pen and other small stuffs.I usually misplace my calculator and pen at the office especially when there are lots of paper on the table or when I go to my office mate's table.I also misplace socks at home and my mother always get mad when doing laundry. I really have to think really hard and repeat the things that I have done to remember certain things that I misplace lol.

I do this entirely too often. I am a complete scatter brain and will often lose the pen I am working with, or even the remote when I haven't gone any further than the couch SMH. I try the think through my last moves and most times that does work, but I also have many instances where I can't find it no matter how much backtracking I do. I then end up tearing up my house in search of the missing item, which is way more often that I would like.... lol
