http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/IIT-M-grad-tops-CAT-without-coaching/articleshow/11455778.cms Ajinkya Deshmukh, who graduated from IIT-Madras two years ago, will now go to another Indian Ivy League school for his management education, a combo-ticket that will put him at a distinct advantage in the big corporate world. Employed as a software developer in a Mumbaibased business analytics company, Deshmukh came up trumps in the CAT entrance without going to a coaching centre. His formula was simple - put in 100%. PERSEVERANCE with a goal in mind and also attempting as many mock tests has helped CAST 2011 toppers --nine of them scoring 100 percentile. We can adopt the same strategy in bank exams and interviews also -- perseverance and attempting mock tests from various books and websites. best wishes

Hello ravisivan: I agree, the two mentioned by you are very useful tools for success. Perseverance is by far the most important ingredient for any success. Mock tests help one to constantly assess and improve before taking the final test. Very useful thought. Thanks. Have a wonderful time!

I was thrilled by the achievement of that boy and also a few others as appeared in TOI. In fact this boy also succeeded only in third attempt. so perseverance wins.

I know you may have to burn the midnight oil. Please try sincerely and am sure you will succeed. Even this boy who succeeded has got success in third attempt only.

hi ravisivan that is really impressive. He took the time to learn and to keep on wor king until he had it all down to perfection. People can learn from him how to succeed in college and go on to higher degrees. You just cannot get there without putting in the real effort and perseverance needed. That is why so many fail and the few do really succeed.I used to use a bit of that strategy when I went back to college in a junior college in my thiries and then later took the final two years at the U of Ca Irvine California. When you put in the work you start to succeed and when you persevere you do get there too.[

Hatley aunty: thanks for your response. I was impressed by the performance of that boy and other information I got from the newspaper and thought it fit to share with others. You are greater than all others. In this age 85+ you are really active and encouraging others. Perseverance and hard work are the two keys for success in any venture.

Though I think that mock tests and such help with some people, there are other people that it doesn't help at all. I am one of those people, I can do really well on practice exams and things like that but when it comes to the real thing, I will freeze up because of the atmosphere in the room. With that said, however, I do think that perserverance is something that will take people a long way in their lives.

dorannmwin: How are you? meeting you after a long time. How is your husband? You were mentioning about some health issues. When a person takes up the same exam second time, one it tells his ability to face failure and when he succeeds it shows his determination to win. I also passed an exam after failing once in my bank service.

It is possible to do anything if people take a oath and concertrate fully on the goal what he was to achieve do not things avout other things except the goal he had to achive. There nothing that is impossible it is said that human can turn even stone to water then these are small things. But apart from the the hard labour one do there is need of luck as well as mind i mean not all is cpapble doing things. Some one get born with preigifted item and intellegence is one of them .While with hard labour it is posbile to aquire but not all time. What is gited to human will not be achivavlbe by hard work but one should not stop trying ang giving his hard labour to the work he wish to do.

rajeev: you are right. some of us understand things easily. a few others take a lot of time to follow certain situations. besides this luck is also required. We should always be trying to get new opportunities.

I admire people who work hard to succeed in anything they do. The concentration, the sacrifice and the never-say-die spirit are good models for all of us. But I am attracted by the way of "attempting as many mock tests". It makes me thinking about the real purpose of a test. What is the purpose of a mock test? I guess it is to familiar oneself about the way the test is conducted, the test environment, and to simulate the actual taking of the test. All these endeavors are make to beat the system (not to be intimidated by the system), or at the very least, to minimize/eliminate any mistakes for not knowing the system. What if a student who is not familiar with the test method, makes a simple system mistake like instead of using black inked ball pen, he used blue, and therefore his answers of the test are not accepted. He has failed. He may be a genius in the test subject but he failed because he used the wrong colored ball pen. In that case, the test does not evaluate the true capabilities of the student. Maybe there is a need to re-think the way we make academical\skill evaluations. We have to make the test friendly to the participants.

We have to walk with open eyes in the world --similarly students have to be on the look out for pattern, sample, mock papers and improve their skills. There is no excuse for not preparing in a manner which will succeed. True people from rural areas and suburban areas are at a disadvantage. They should adopt perseverance like that successful boy and succeed.
