Do you believe in feng shui?

The Chinese New Year is fast approaching and lots of people are excited about it including non-Chinese ones. In the malls we could see lots of lucky charms and amulets for the coming year of the dragon and for those who are born in other animal signs. In my office some are busy checking the web for their horoscope for the coming year and what lucky charms or protection they should wear. Some are also consulting the feng shui for the changes they are going to make in their houses. How about you? Have you had any experience for you to say that feng shui is reliable? I am a little afraid because according to my year of the dragon horoscope, i have to wear protection for thievery and bloodshed. Do i have to wear all those mystique knots and amulets or other charms?

Feng shui is an art of science and math. it is not really more on what we wear or what we put in our houses that would bring the change... it is actually how we are coordinated with the elements of the world that makes the difference. I am a believer of the theory or saying that the world conspires for us to get what we want... and sure it does help a lot when you know how to maximize your potential... putting a frog or a cat inviting air in won't change our lives.. but more on our determination. we are with 3 different luck - man luck(whatever we do, it would be part of the totality, our hard work will eventually pay off), god luck(is what we were born with.. kind of fate or destiny and even karma)and the environment(this is where we could help alter with fengshui, etc).

Hi! chiyosan,so these 3 luck should harmonize with each other is that what you mean? Maybe other people look at feng shui in its surface only. That is why they interpret it differently. I heard about it many years ago but i don't really give it time to think about. I think i have to study it deeper so i could understand it more. Thank you for this important information.

This kind of explanation is a ture one about Fengshui. The common one is a kind of blind faith.Fengshui is a science in a way.

I have read a book about how we should design our house and i think the basis are valid. Maybe that is why it is a science. Hmmm interesting.

Well I do believe in Feng shui but to a certain extent.I have a laughing Buddha in my house and I have felt that it does keep things under control in your family but then again there have been problems too. Therefore I think it all depends on whether or not a person believes in them.I think it is all about having faith in certain things. That is why some people are great believers in astrology while some are not.

Hi dear... Actually, i never claim it as a superstitions but i dont believe and for me it is a superstition. Neither, i believe in horoscope nor such objects which are predicted and never carry the same result as we desire. Have a nice time.

As a skeptic I see feng-shui as somewhat similar to horoscopes. I have friends who believe in feng-shui and am appalled by self-proclaimed feng-shui masters telling them how to arrange furniture. FURNITURE?!? Because it's blocking the flow of chi. I can't believe in something that tells me that arranging a certain piece of furniture would mean the financial security of my family. As far as other people believing / practicing in feng-shui I've got no problem with that. I just feel sad that my friend had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to have his furniture arranged. As for thy ominous prediction of thievery and bloodshed, I say it's all just a little too broad for my taste. Wearing some amulets or charms is not going to stop some thief or burglar from stealing from you. I say just live your life and stay safe.

Well said haopee, you see i am just curious and interested to know more about this thing, but i don't plan to base my way of life from that. Yes, amulets and charms won't really stop burglars , you are right. Anyway, i will be careful as always. Thanks for your insights.

i used to think that feng shui and all those chinese beliefs are true but nowadays, i pay no attention to it anymore. I respect it, but for me i don't think it is true or all the things it said are real for us..i made it a basis in the past and nothing of what it said were real for me..it all just depends on us..

Haha my dad believes in feng shui, he even calculated what kind of color should we paint the house in order to not clash with the dragon year feng shui or some sort. Well guess what color did he want to paint the house with? Purple and Green! omg i bet its gonna look like some kind of kindergarten. haha. It is fine if you believe in feng shui, but not to the extreme extend. =)

Really, i've read too that the color of this year of the dragon is purple, red and pink and the secondary color is purple and brown. Yes, according to the elders, there's no harm believing in something that you think can help you. So, next year, expect that the color of your house will be different again because that would be year of the snake.

People's fate is determined by God--the Creator of the Universe. The fengshui you mentiones is already mixed with chinese religious belief I am afraid. I used to rely on horoscope but since I grew up and learned from many people who taught me that everything in this world has been prepared by God for us all.

Yes, i agree, i also believe that no one knows what will happen to us only God. I am only wondering why many people nowadays are relying on feng shui for everything they do. That is why i would like to know if anybody have tried practicing it and have proof that this is really true. Maybe these are just some practical guides for our activities of daily living.

In China, a saying always being said, it works if you believe it, but not if you don't believe! You can regard Feng shui as a hope, a wish....those can make you more better in some cases.

I don;t know anything about Feng shui, as I know, Feng Shui is just like Primbon in Java, but more detail. Feng shui arranged all of human life almost everything. But I never look at the prediction of feng shui. I'm just neutral.....

It originated from China i guess because Chinese businessmen consults Feng Shui experts for their business. Lots of Filipinos believe in that too, in fact some of my office mates buy books on that as well as lucky charms and everything for luck and protection.

I don't believe in feng shui though when I was younger I am somehow interested and probably to a certain extent believed in it because of the influence of family members and some relatives. Nevertheless, I definitely don't believe in it since it's just a mere man made way of thinking. I mean anyone can actually be blessed or achieve some form of success in life without relying on various superstitious belief or traditional way of thinking such as this.

I think so too, its hardwork and perseverance that could help us succeed in life. Also, we should be careful always and keep our houses secure from burglars and other bad elements. Thank you and happy new year.

I also noticed that in the malls there are already items for sale for the Chinese New Year. In my Chinese class, we are going to celebrate for the Chinese New Year. My professor asked us to bring Chinese foods. With feng shui, I don't believe in it unless if I am a Chinese.

Yes, i have seen that too, lots of lucky charms on sale and all those thing related to the Chinese New Year. Well, just join them and have fun, no one can force you to believe if you do not want to. We have our own free will.

Sorry but I don't really believe in Feng Shui. I think these were made up stories for them to market their products. We have the control of our destiny and we shouldn't rely it on those amulets and charms. 'Though my mom bought some of those products, it is just meant for accessories.

I personally do not believe in these traditions and beliefs. I respect and found these really interesting to study and maybe in depth but i will never get influenced by these. If you feel that you need to believe in these then you should have this protection to feel better and more secure. I think it is up to you.

Well, i think feng shui and this Chinese horoscope for the year of the dragon is different from each other. Like they say feng shui is a science and i think its good to know about it more. Regarding the prediction of bad luck or burglary, i still believe that faith in God would help me and of course i have to be careful and keep my house secure from burglars. Thank you.

I heard in our client four-five years ago that "When Feng Shui starts it will not end". He is half-Chinese but he doesn't believe in Feng Shui. He told me,it is better not to believe than to believe yet you can't do or continue believing. And since i don't know much about it i think i can say that i don't really believe in it..

Well, i just think its interesting, and i would like to have better knowledge about it, but i still think that it all depends on the persons belief. It is also influenced by culture and religion. Thanks for expressing your perception towards it.
