Couch surfing or staying in someone's garden

I haven't ever tried couch surfing but think it is a very good idea indeed? It is a super opportunity for a one person or two people but it probably wouldn't work for a family. It would give the people a chance to mix with different nationalities and learn more about the world. Yesterday I was reading a travel magazine and it said now there is an Internet site for camping in the garden. I think this would work better for a family and think it would be essential to use the bathroom in the persons' home. What do you think of couch surfing? Would you ever choose to try it? What do you think of camping in a tent in someones garden? If you went on a trip which destinations would you choose?

Do you know the website address of the camping in gardens organisation please? You could also consider doing some wwoofing, or finding a host through one of the other volunteering organisations.

Lol well i do couch surfing everyday alone at home. haha. So i don't think that is really a great idea to spend time with your family. Going on a trip perhaps would help, but then again it depends where. If it is camping, does anyone in your family or dislike it? You might have to consider that. And again, camping in someone's garden seems fun, but would be kinda awkward though. Just my thought. Anyways, good luck! =)

It is interesting that you sleep on a couch every night at home. I took my disabled son camping when he was two years old and he quite enjoyed it. I might try a camping trip to see how my daughter gets on with it. With a tent if it is rainy I know it needed to be waterproof. I remember in the dry area of Australia having difficulty getting my pegs into the ground. I loved camping along the walking tracks in New Zealand.

hi maximax8! this is the very first time i heard about "couch surfing" but that is really a great idea and opportunity if ever i get to travel again. this could really give you insights on the culture of the country you are visiting since you get to sit down with one of the locals in their own garden. wow, that is so exciting. it would be entirely different than staying in a hotel. in addition to having that chance to really mingle with the locals, i think you can save up since hotel accommodations are kinda costly. i would very much like to try this "couch surfing", it would be indeed a new kind of experience and i am sure that i would love it. my husband and i do have plans to travel hopefully soon and we are planning to visit again our neighboring countries in asia. hopefully we would be able to search for people who would offer their gardens to be a campsite. have a nice day dear friend! lovelots, faith210

hi maximax now that I have read a few responses and understand that it is a web site it sounds fascinating, but for me I have b oth health problems and money problems b ut yet maybe I might be an armchair traveler. lol camping in a tent in someone's garden great idea for younger people but what do they do for toilet facilities use the family's rest rooms? If I could go on a trip it would be the Emerald Isle or Erin or Ireland where I could look up the family of my gr gr grandfather Thomas c Clark. He was born in Derry Ireland in the 1740s and migrated to Kentucky as a married man. would love to find the rest of the family tree.

Hi Maxine, Not now, but when I was younger I would have camped in a garden if I had the choice. As of now, I would offer bed and breakfast is I knew how to get into such a site, but I would offer a room and not a couch in my living room. Or is that what you meant?

You are right indeed. Couch surfing is not suited for a family. I joined the site 2 weeks ago in a desperate move to complete my itinerary for my upcoming trip. I was searching for hotels to stay in Labuan, Malaysia but all they have are phone numbers and there were no website or even an email address. So I decided to join the group and look if someone is willing to accommodate me just for one night. And I was lucky that there is someone who is kind enough to host me. I will tell you what would my experience be next month. Anyways, I was searching in the site of couch surfing and found out that almost all of them can only accommodate 1 or 2 persons at a time. I would go for camping in a garden if I will travel with my family or my friends.

I am very keen to hear about your forthcoming trip Doggy Dimon. I am delighted that you have joined Couch Surfing. I hope that you will really enjoy your stay in Labuan. Yes, I browsed the site and checked takes three people but most only take one or two. One said she takes as many as fifteen people. Many mentions adults only or no young children. I love camping and think it is a very cheap way to travel.
