saving for Christmas already

It's January and I'm already thinking ahead towards next Christmas. I'm trying to sock away as much money as possible without feeling any pinch. Things I'm doing are: 1. Stop drinking soda pop and take the money I save and put it into savings. I'm saving my health as well as my money. 2. Put any "found" money into savings. I frequently find lone dollar bills and change lying around the house, in pockets, etc. 3. Set aside the money (cash) from one piano lesson I teach each week for savings. 4. Do Swagbucks, mylot, superpoints, etc. I'm still looking for some new ones that don't take a lot of time. 5. Eventually I'd like to be using coupons and putting aside the money that I save, but that takes some time to work up to, plan, etc. What are you doing to save money for Christmas, vacations, etc this year?

Hi Hemo, Well, sounds like you are doing pretty well so far. I would love to save ahead for Christmas but it just doesn't seem to happen. Seems there is always someone's birthday or if by chance, I manage to save a little bit then "something" happens like my car will have an issue or my daughter will need something. I have a change jug and sometimes that will build up to about 30.00 or so but then something will come up and I'll have to turn it in. I do cut corners wherever possible and am pretty frugal which allows us to get by as well as we do, thankfully. Well, I'll keep trying. Anyway...good luck..sounds as if you are off to a good start!

I know how things just seem to "come up." I have always saved money using an envelope system, but it seems to just disappear when things come up. This year I'm actually going to put it in an account at the credit union. If it's not in the house and I can't easily get to it, I can't spend it.

That's a good idea. I don't have a savings account...just a checking which I use for bills. I did find a few "after Christmas" specials and stored them away for next year at dirt cheap prices.

Well this year is going to be tight on money because i plan on getting into my own place and actually have a mortgage and be on my own without parents being around of course i have my boyfriend and we plan on saving money and paying off things this year but i think this year what money i make online will be saved into my paypal account and i can purchase and use that money online and to buy things or i can of course transfer it in my account in november and use that money for christmas shopping and i have actually been thinking about getting a envelope or a jar and start putting money into it like all the loose change i find and all the cash i have becasue i barely ever use cash and when i do have it i should save it into something. its a great idea to save as well. Have a GREAT DAY MYLOTTING.

Great idea to keep your money in a paypal account and shop online. I try to "hide" my envelopes that I keep cash in so that I don't see it and spend it. Good luck buying your own home!

I haven't started setting aside money for Christmas yet, but I've started accumulating gift cards and amazon gift cards from swagbucks. I'm saving gift cards I received for Christmas and I will use them to help me buy any gifts that I need to buy. I have started making some of my Christmas presents as well. Mostly knitted things, but i will do some sewing in the summer when it is too hot to knit.

The things I do to save cash are small but helpful. We have two different things to save up for. We have an emergency fund and we have the living room set fund. In order to put $ into these funds we pinch every penny we can. Cut costs as much as we can. We keep our bills as low as we can and try to get them lower. I use coupons for our shopping and try to only buy what is on sale. My hubby packs his lunch for work and that saves a big chunk of change. He enjoys sodas during the day as well and I always buy him the aluminum cans and then we take those and turn them in for the $. The extra $ goes into our funds. All of the daily change we get goes into the funds as well. I earn as much online as I can to help with the monthly bills. Some of my reward places do not pay cash so I try to cash out with amazon or giftcards that I know will come in handy. There is a great bedding ensemble on amazon that I really want for the master bedroom. (That is my special present for me this year for Christmas)As soon as we get the living room set replaced the fund will go toward something else. I would love a vacation this year as well but I am not sure we will be able to swing it. Good luck with yours.

This year the main thing that I'm doing differently to save for Christmas is that I'm trying to set aside $20 every week that will go toward the shopping that I will do in the stores on Black Friday and beyond. I've also been doing swagbucks for a couple of years now as well as superpoints and mypoints to earn Amazon gift cards. Those I use to buy the majority of the toys and electronics for the kids every year at Christmas. Of course I would like to be able to do more, but it takes time to work up to that.

Do you have any certain things that you are doing to set aside the $20 each week?

I'm not worried. I'm actually excited about the prospect of saving for it instead of being short of cash and long on stress when Christmas rolls around next year. I'm trying to save for my kids' summer camps and vacation this way too.

Christmas has just passed, so i definitely have no plans to save yet for it. I spend my money accordingly. Needs are foremost to be given attention and the expenses for our daughter's stay in a far city where she studies Medicine.

Hi hemophilimom, What a smart comsumer you are...Thats a great plan you have for yourself and I truly hope it works for you.. Unfortunately I don't drink soda and as far as found money...HA HA HA.. But I do agree with you now is the time...But I have other things I can save for before worrying about Christmas...I 'll at least wait until July before I start Christmas shopping not just saving,,,I am going to start early, like I use to do when my children were small...That seemed to have worked for me... Good luck to you.....
