Solipsism

Let's try to use our imagination now. You can experience something new just by thinking about solipsism. What it is? It's a view that whole world is just effect of our imagination - not true, at least not as we think of it. It doesn't have to be our imagination though. Let's imagine that we are in a virtual reality created by a machiine that is going to be invented in about 1000 years. And everybody else is just a bot, NPC, i. e. person programmed by that computer. I don't know if I made myself clear, however, if you have ever thought about it, you should get what i'm talking about : ). Have You ever thought like that? Do You think it can be possible?

I have been thinking about this view for sometime, and all i can tell is that there is no way to disprove it. And no way to prove it, but afterall as i have read somewhere even if all the rest of the universe were just a projection of our own thoughts, it would not make such a big difference. Other people would just be other thoughts, so our own self would be a part of the entity that imaginates the rest of the universe and other people would be different parts. So basically solipsism just changes the universe and the people in it from physical beings interacting with each other to ideas interacting with each other. The medium in which the interaction takes place is different (physical vs. ideas) but those are just words, it doesn't make much difference. The virtual reality idea instead raises different questions. If something acts as an intelligent and conscious being is it enough to call it intelligent and conscious? (i.e. the chinese room argument)

You are absolutely right, it won't make any difference. Unless of course life is a test for inteligence and courage to discover the idea of solipsism and to tell it to others... And then what will happen? I don't know because I haven't tried. Hyphoteticaly

Yes, I can see you are really resting in your recliner in Heaven playing the game of life. I only have but one question. Are you winning the game?? The rest doesn't matter. Life is about learning and growing as people. Make great advancements. I will cheer you on.

I'm not sure what's Your point. I don't believe in this view, although I like the feeling I get from getting distant from life by thinking of it. And I try to make my best in enjoying life : )
