"The Latin American people believed and feel that we Filipinos form past of that vast family, the children of Spain. Thus, although Spain ceased to govern those countries many years ago and although another nation is sovereign in the Philippines, those Latin-American peoples feel themselves as brothers to the people of the PHilippines. It is the Spanish language that still binds us to those peoples, and the Spanish language will bind us to those peoples eternally if we have the wisdom and patriotism of preserving it"
Okay! to make this a discussion, of course, do you let mylot interfere with your studies? Why, because, we are currently having our midterm examination and I would just want to confide the above quote for a reflection essay. I couldn't reflect since the quote is not a current event, may be someone here will digest it for me. LOL.. I could have my name topped the test III, then! LOL... Please? Sir/Madam

Response to quote:
Reflecting from the past, the Filipino people have not felt the sense of brotherhood and cordiality of Spanish conquerors. Generally, Filipinos then were looked down as slaves. Even the elite Filipinos of those times were subjected to racial discrimination. It was at this social and political scenario that prompted Rizal to venture into other lands just to study abroad and to etch a name for himself and the Filipino race.
Yes, the Spanish language has been the common bind that link us with Latin-American people but I see this mainly as a result of the 400 years of their rule in the Philippines. Language being a dynamic element of the socio - cultural atmosphere in a particular State had a strong impact to the Filipino - Malay race at that time. This is aside from their imposition of a neo-pagan Christianity among the Filipino people who have been used to worship and venerate idols of stone.
Response to personal discussion:
Good way of using mylot! Hehehehe.... Good luck for your test III.

Hello sabado_dc, I think it is the religious belief. It is the Spaniards to influenced or brought Christianity to our country. Although the Spaniard time in our country is not really good, I believe that we have also learned so many things from them. Plus, those Filipinos who have Spaniard blood (half Filipino half Spanish) are really pretty and handsome. And we may also account the Spaniards for it. Our view of "beautiful" has been influenced by their "mestiza mestizo" preferences.
All these ramblings are just of course my opinion. I am actually thinking of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo while I type this. Haha, now you are giving me 'high school' nostalgia.

dear bro,
I am proud to be an Igorot- maybe with a single drop of Spanish color :p (whatever)
I am proud that I was a native (thu I was not born there) to a place- and the only place where Spaniards never conquered

So must I Sis...
I agree with you!
Let us just work every thing at its best because no matter how, what, or where we are, it is just us, being us that counts..
