Why does my newborn grunt?

I have a one month old baby that sometimes grunts and strains. Though this is my second child I don't remember my eldest doing that. Does anyone know what the grunting and straining are all about?

My little boy did this when he was a baby, I was told that this could be down to trapped gas.
