Do you have trouble keeping your kids names straight? Omg my mom always does this with me and my brothers. She would tell one of my brothers to stop bugging me and she would say the wrong name. Some times they still do that at my age. My dad started to call my nephew by brothers name and I told my mon next my dad will be calling my daughter by my name. I've done it before where I called my daughter by my dogs name. But now I guess I'll probably be joining accidentally calling my child by there siblings names.

I do it all the time, and it is really shameful as I only have two daughters. I only do that to my daughters though, calling the older one by the younger one's name and vice versa. They don't like it when I make a mistake like that. My mother-in-law does it too. Calling my husband his brother's name and vice versa. Here's a thought: could it be that it shows how equal we love them?

@loveshore, that's a good idea...but then they love strings and rope,etc......they might love it too much.

I'm an only child and my mom still gets my name wrong sometimes lol. She'll either call me by the dogs' names or by her youngest sister's name and it's actually pretty funny. My boyfriend sometimes messes up too...but luckily he's never called me by an ex's name. He'll usually start to say the name of his sister since our names have the same first letter and make the same sound. Most of the time he'll catch it before the whole name comes out but I still get annoyed because how could he get me confused with his sister lol?

Yeah I definitely understand. That happens to me sometimes. I'll get angry about something and it's like I can't even think of my boyfriends name and then a bunch of jibberish comes out lol

You get use to saying someone's name all of the time so it sticks some times. Stress and heat of the moment can mess you up some times.

My children still remember me doing it when they were young. Even though there was almost 3 years difference in their ages they were almost the same size, hair color, etc. For many years, if I was behind them, I couldn't tell which one I was talking to, so many times they were called by the wrong one. I also used to say "which ever one of you did this, you better take responsibility for it(and then whatever the consequence for it was) if you don't and I learn which one of you did it." They say I even did it after they got big enough to tell them apart. They knew it wasn't disrespectful of them, just mom's name recall problem. In fact today, they will say, "Which one of us am I today?" Funny to them now and they are in their forties. I've never been good with names. I may know people from face, but I have a hard time remembering names unless I see them daily. I've tried memory classes for it and it doesn't help. Thanks for the discussion!

Yeah I'm te same way with names to faces unless I see them every day. I have only called my daughter by our dogs name one time thankfully but I guess next year I will have two kids on my hand and I'll call one by one name and the other by the others name.

For me it honestly depends on just how frustrated the kids get me. Most of the time it is easy for me to keep their names straight, especially considering that one of them is a girl and the other is a boy. However, there are times that one of them starts doing something that really gets on my nerves and when that happens, I really do have a tendency of calling them by the wrong name. When this happens, I usually just resort to saying, "Whoever you are stop it!".

Maybe you should name your daughter or son a cute common name like for example, Ana. In that way you won't forget or be confused in calling their names. Also when it comes to your pets, I would suggest that you make it unique. Something like for animals only.

Madison is a very simple name I don't new to go change her name. You know how hard that is. It has nothing to do with her name. I don't have my dog any more and the discussion isn't about mr and my daughters name or her new siblings name. All parents do it all of the time some less then others and the question was about your own kids and I'm guessin you have none since you said nothing about your own.

haahaha.... hi there....i really can relate much on that. for my mom does that very often, if she will call our elder sister, she can utter really the name of us all until she can say my elder sister's name..haha. this is maybe the result of having much kids in the family.

I usually keep my kids and my sister's kids names right. On the rare occasion I call my son my dogs name. That is so funny so I have a good laugh. My mom often calls me by my sister's name by mistake. She can get people's names mixed up together. My sisters family are known as the lucky family. Lee Lee Lucky is my older niece's nickname and Bree Bree Lucky is my younger niece's nickname. My dogs are called Secret and Magic.

Those are nicknames to me. I tell my husband you know I'm tired when I mess up people's names.

My grandfather does this. No matter who he is talking to, he lists everybody's names, starting with his sisters', in the same order every time. My mother is doing the same thing now, and I'm sure I'll be doing it in the future.

Hi ShyBear, I have to say that I am guilty of that...I only have a son and a daughter and 2 grandsons...But even at only those 4 names I do call them each others names... And don't even get me stated about my nieces down south ,You know how they give all their children the same name just a letter off or something...well thats my family...I don't know one from the other as far as name....So I don't perpetrate....I don't know and I admit it...I can't remember and don't expect me to...I will tell them in a minute if they had normal names I would not have that problem... But little do they know...I would still have the same problem... LOL LOL LOL

I live down south my daughter and her new brother or sister will not have the same first letter names. My daughter's name starts with and M and if our next child is a boy it's a J or if a girl it's either R or K. I haven't gotten my daughter and her cousin now cousins names mixed up yet thankfully.

Maybe they are old enough to forget some of their name and thinking that the other child.Or you have same face with her thats why she called you that.also some loves to joke and calling you in other name.

I'm 23 and I do the same thing it doesn't gave to do with age. They no not to joke about names when it comes to me. My daughter looks nothing like me. All her daddy. My parents aren't that old wither they did that my whole enter life to me and my brothers. We make jokes when they do that.

My dad always has done that, he always calls me by my sisters names and then corrects himself. I always thought it was down to his age but I now do it with my kid's lol, so i guess age has nothing to do with it.

I think it has to do with stress some times or the one that you starts it so you think it's them and then it's not. Mom brain as I call it.
