We're all blindly marching to communism

I hate to point out the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about, it's basically the truth. I realized this while talking about the budget and our debt. There's a theory that basically states: if we enact enough laws and imprison enough people for them we'll all eventually either be guards or inmates. The sad truth is regardless of which side you're on we're heading to a similar situation. We keep passing laws requiring more people to work for the government and sometimes putting more people in prisons. While the left makes little qualms about heading in a socialist direction, the "small government" right does the same thing every time they seek a law prohibiting drugs, gay marriage, pro-life, going to war, or anything else that requires government intervention. Then the problem is compounded when they try and reduce taxes. Sure in the short run less taxes means more freedom. But it quickly drives us into bankruptcy which will lead to the whole country working to pay off government debt. We all love our government jobs and at least a few people are happy about every regulating agency. But at what point do step back and realize that everyone is now employed by the government and we are no longer free?

Agreed. At least with most of today's modern progressives under the Democratic banner, you know where they stand. Even through the baloney, you know that they're for social justice = redistribution = huge government. It's the big-government Republicans who tick me off more. They're all about claiming to want smaller government and more freedom, but if given even half the chance, they would most certainly dictate things from on high, like abortion laws and marriage laws and school laws and on and on. The only small, thin silver lining I do see with a Republican in charge vs. a Democrat is that there are more Republicans willing to act how I feel is responsibly. Not many more, but more.

Yeah, I could almost be republican if I weren't so put off by the laws they want. If they could come to the realization that laws concerning values are the opposite of small government they might have a largely appealing platform. I usually support the democrats because despit their delusion of social utopia they usually are less infringing on individual rights.

That is because they just want to get (re)elected.

Sad but true. On the other hand, we have let things progress so far that most people have given up on government, and our political system. They are content to keep putting the same people in time and time again, and sit quietly while they take our freedoms one by one and take over our lives. Until more people are willing to stand up and try to fight for what is right, it will only get worse.

Your right, a lot of people are discontent with things they don't even seem to care. Of course it goes far beyond just our government taking away rights. And worse yet some of those rights are infringed upon at the request of special interest groups, the same groups that want less government but don't like what other people do. I also thinks being furthered by super corporations, those too big to fail companies. No company should have that power. But they do, and they don't only have a huge influence through lobbyist and funding. But they also produce a huge amount of jobs that put a huge number of people in jobs that perpertuate the downfall. The media has far too much influence. And these huge companies are often the only ones who get big government contracts. Its almost like everyone is either working for the government, a company that contracts with the government, or a company that provided services targeted to them. If you most companies that don't sell a product to the government are often the employers of mostly low wage undesirable jobs, like fast food. And those employees get welfare, so it really puts us in a situation where the majority of people either need the government to provide them with jobs or with welfare to do well. I find it hard to find a successful industry that doesn't really heavily on either a government service or the business of government employees .

Yup, and neither major party seems interested in doing anything to stop it.

Not so long as they think they can use it to get what they want.
