..Up and quitting your day job and doing something crazy, like joining the circus? Becoming a vagabond? Up and moving to Las Vegas or Los Angeles or Spain and just doing a 180 degree turn on your life? I think the monotony of working Monday through Friday must be getting to me. Seriously. I have these day dreams that I will quit my job, and do something crazy. I just haven't figured out what that 'crazy' is. Don't worry, I'm a pretty grounded individual, I have credit cards, bills, gas to keep in my car, and I don't actually HATE my job but doing the same thing over and over and over again....Is probably getting to me. What can I do about this? Do you feel the same way as me? How do you break through the monotony of every day life? (Please help - that, or, come see my acrobatic act at the circus!!!!! lol).

Well, honestly I am just about to leave my current job. It simply doesn't suit me. Been working only for 2 months. I guess I'd be back to the jobhunting arena again or probably do some schooling. Yeah, when routine is too much, it gets to your senses. A good diversion is the availment of leave and grab the opportunity to go somewhere or book ahead prior leaving so you have something to look forward to. Reward yourself. You deserve it :D

Lol, I so understand where you are coming from and I have too had the same day dreams. I wanted so bad to be a clown and still do. The trick to help break the monotony is to have something else of interest that you can do outside of work. You know, that thing that you can not wait to get home for. be it a master piece painting that you are working on, a story book, your own product or service that you are working on that will make you your first million :D Perhaps a special home made gift for someone special. Anything that will help you get through the day, so that you look forward to going to and getting off of work so you may pick up where you left off the day before. Even join a gym or frequent the local pool for a nice hot tub after work. There is more to life than just work. It is up to you to find that which will interest you.

I had been working for the same man for 5 years. He passed away in July and his wife has taken over the company. I have been fantasizing quite a bit about quitting my job since then. There have been too many changes. Customers are not happy and neither am I. I would not just up and quit. It would not be right. I would have to give a two weeks notice before I left my job. I do plan to leave, but am not sure when I will as of yet. I am not worried about getting another job. I have opportunities waiting on me and a very supportive spouse who makes enough money to pay our bills and keep us comfortable. I also do some book keeping from home. As far as fantasizing about running away with the circus, I don't think that is such a crazy idea. It is probably more common than we would think it to be. What better way to see the world and meet unique people? I think I would become a beach bum though. I would have to buy stock in a sun block manufacturing company first, but I do so love the water!

I just thought I would give you an update. I did quit my job just over a week ago. The final straw was when the boss decided that she would give me a 1099 instead of a w2. I am not self employed, so the 1099 was erroneous. I let her know that if she were going to label me as a sub contractor, then, legally, I have the right to set my own hours and my rate of pay. She refused to give me a raise to offset the additional taxes that I would have to pay as a self employed person, so I gave her the option to pay what SHE owes as the employer or I would have to file the paper work with the IRS and let them straighten it all out. She got quite an attitude when I stood up to her. She refused to give me a raise, so I refused to return to work there anymore.

Alright! I'll pay good money to sit up front and watch your circus act, whatever you come up with. When I was in my last year (and maybe last semester) in university and the pressure of passing my last few subjects was really getting to me (there was a possibility that I couldn't graduate). I had fantasies of just giving up, and thinking I'll just be a lounge singer. That was before American Idol, when everybody still think they could sing, and sing well.

i have the same predicament, and hoping i could just simply get away and enjoy some time for myself... but, on the other hand, this selfish act would only tend to make my family endure pain and embarrassment, lol! on second thoughts, maybe i should the family along...

mazee: I'm sailing in the same boat! I was so neck deep in work these last three years that I had nothing else occupying my mind space. I had to work in the day job between 9 am & 9 pm and still calls would chase me all the way back home until late in the night as well as very early in the morning too. My people at home were also fed up with my routine. There is no dearth of money & material though. Then this change of place in the same Company came my way & I wasn't prepared for it-more owing to my aged father's entreaties to try & be closer home. I decide to take a break and have been away from work for nearly 40 days now! I have tried to revamp my web site spending a lot of time and figuring out monetizing opportunities for substantial earnings that I hope should obviate me going back to day work again! But it has proved to be huge work and at this moment I'm still unsure if I would kick my day job yet!
