Yes, most of us have heard about SOPA and PIPA. It was on the internet and news and we were made more aware because of the stunts that certain internet companies did. We were briefly told about how these acts would affect the internet and if we did a little more research, we would know more. I do not expect you to do so but I got curious and so did my research which led me to learn of several things though I would not be mentioning them here. Now, as a daily user of facebook, I have seen this picture replace profile and group pictures. Do you think that these simple acts done by individuals would help promote awareness and strengthen the fight in opposing the said acts? If it did, then we could do so much more by using images on websites that require a user to have a profile. It would create a different alternative for us individuals to express our freedom of speech and also keep people aware of the things that are happening.

The protest efforts have already made an impact on the bills. At this very moment, congress has decided to put both on hold indefentally. Or, thats what I read on Wesh.com, my local news station. However, I never consider either a real threat. Most of the protest efforts, are due to a missunderstanding of the bill and its intended uses. Which only goes to prove that if anything it was a scare tactic. Because, if it passed, they can't force anyone to do anything as far as the internet is concerned. When news spread about the bills, I was like pfft. Its not going anywhere. And, I turned out to be right. The goveronment can't control the internet, so the threat is really an empty one meant to scare. Which apparently it did if the protest efforts I've seen have anything to do with it. If you stop to think about it, the bills were only based-lined and were not real thought out. There are too many varabilies to consider. And, like with states who have not passed no talking on the phone or texting on the phone while driving, the question remains.. where to draw the line? When the bills were created, this question wasn't taken into consideration. And, right now, its to counterversial. You're talking of freedom of speach, free press/media, how do you streamline something like that while keeping true to the legs we stand on? Congress doesn't know, that's why they are at a stand-still.

Very well said. My news might be a few days old but I do not think the congress has decided to put both on hold indefinitely. I heard that PIPA would still push through for voting on the 24th of January although it would obviously fail and SOPA would be done some time in the February. I would like to agree that the bills were not really thought out and that was the most evident reason I have read around to why the giant internet companies have decided to act againts them. That is also the reason why most politicans have withdrawn their support for the bills. They were contacted by individuals and after hearing out the concerns then realized it. Thank you for your reply.

I believe that this will help to get people aware of what is this moment and so if it does go forward, more people will know about the effects. This way, it will be easier to organize protests against it once it goes out. Then maybe we can do something about it, since we have had a lot of manifests from big internet sites and they have gotten the attention of big people out there! All is valid in this protest!

Thank you for agreeing with me and supporting the opposition of these bills. The giant internet companies have really made a difference by acting out of initiative.

As internet users there is not much that we can do to oppose the SOPA and PIPA I guess.. The stunts we pull off will not catch their attention its up to bit enterprises and firms to oppose them. You would have seen how WIKIPEDIA opposed the SOPA and PIPA and how it had an effect all over the world.. this is the best example to show that there isnt much we can do from out end to oppose it but as u said we can spread awareness.. I think there are still many who are unaware of the SOPA and PIPA and by changing facebook profile pics and updating status we can educate them of what is happening around us... :)

So I would say that you agree with my point that images could help spread awareness. our acts of spreading awareness has actually helped oppose the bills though. The stunt WIkipedia did pushed members of the US population to contact their politicians. The result, several more US politicians have withdrawn their support after hearing out the concerns.
