There are many religion in the world. Here in Indonesia, there are only 5 recognized religion by the country...they are Islam, Catholic, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and a cult, Tiong Hoa...I don't know what it's name. I'm a Muslim, but I'm not fanaticism, I have great respect for other religion. Even, When I was in high school, I went to school at Catholic school. I'm so sorry, about Muslims that have great fanaticism....they make a bomb and suicide in the name of Islam, They don't. Islam never teaches that act. I'm so sad, many people think that Islam very bad I believe that all religion are good, compassion, charity, do good in mankind, etc Can you tell me about your views on Islam ? Please tell me the truth, I would not think bad

You start dangerous discussion, someone might rant or curse your religion. I'm not Islam so I don't have right to judge your religion. Other religion also had Extreme fanatics. Mostly they know only little about their religion but already assumed they know everything. Some people mixed up religion with reality. I didn't said this bad but can misuse easily. Religion made to build relationship with God and guidance to live peacefully. When religion mixed up with other thing, everything can be wrong. Just example; some religion told that take profit from business or bank are sin. If follower not understand real meaning of that statement, everything we do are sin (everyone go to hell then ...)

Islam is one. In any other countries, Islam is one. In Indonesia, why are there many groups of Islam.? This has been my curiosity to know. I am a moslem too, What I strongly hold in myself is Islam Guidance from the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Muhammad Rosulullah. There are only two guidances. Any teaching or preaching not guided by Quran and Sunnah, it is not true. If it is done, It will be rejected. Islam teaches peace among people. And one thing everybody should know is ISLAM never forces people to embrace it. We, moslem, are only obliged to convey the teaching, not to force people to follow it. If you go to UK, there is one Islam who perform the same method. In USA, also the same method. Only in Indonesia, Islam is grouped into several communities, and in certain instances, they are different in terms of "fiqih".

Yeah of course Islam is one, but it have many group, after Usman and Ali were killed. Then Islam was separated in two main group Sunni and Shia. I'm wondering, just like you....there are many groups now almost 73, with different view of Islam. Good, you strongly upheld the main of Islam guidance, Koran and Hadits. Thanks for your response !!

You also have your struggles. There are two major groups, right? There are Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims. They both believe in Islam but differ on who should lead your group. This struggle was shown in the movie, "Slumdog..." and different novels like "The Kite Runner" to name one. I only see violence, injustice and greed. What must have intensified the negativity of it is the degree of tolerance. For example, the rest of society frowns on women being battered. Please correct me if I am wrong if I say that women in your world are made to accept abuse and that they are killed if they fight back. So, an issue seen abusive outside your world is actually acceptable from your end. This differing level of tolerance has painted a negative picture for Islam.

Coming from a Christian upbringing (mostly Catholic Christian, but my dad's parents were Baptist Christians), I only know what little I have rehd (and/or what little I can remember from my "Intro. to Religions"-course in college). And all I can remember is 'Allah is good; we're lucky if he is merciful with us.' Of course, Christianity teaches something similar---with the caveat that "Christ Jesus paid for us, redeemed us to our equal setting with 'Allah'." That is a very-simplified version of both philosophies.

Yes there are really many religions in the world. I happened to be a catholic. I love my religion. I also grew and study in catholic school, they taught us about God. His commandments and everything about Catholic. One thing that i will not forget is that, They taught us to respect other religion. To tell you the truth, I don't understand why Islam is connected with terrorism. I don't if i'm going to be afraid of them, i don't think that all muslim are like that. I have some friends who are muslims. I just don't understand why some behave badly. They even kill people. In my country, some muslims are rebels. They fight for their freedom or something. They want their own government. They want to rule. I don't understand why. They just end up being killed in fighting. But i still believe that there still goodness left on earth. Religion may be something that differentiate us from other people, but we still believe in the same ONE God.

Hello there... Please don't blame yourself fot the deeds of others... Everyone knows that terrorism has no face and no religion... Terrorists are not humans anyhow, so we can't count them with us or compare either... Please don't feel about your religion.. I am a Hindu and yet, I have many muslim friends... We eat together, party together and have a lot of fun... There is never any feeling of discomfort... No one thinks you are bad... Please don't do that... Take care...

Hi luckygrey, I too respect all religions and have no time for fanaticism. I realize that Islam does not teach terrorism anymore than Christianity or any other religion. The history of Christianity itself is also filled with acts of violence and even terrorism. Your culture is of course very different from that of the western world and some people get mixed up between culture and religion. Blessings.

I respect other religions too, and as matter of fact, I believe that all religion has the fundamental creed to teach every believers to be a good mankind, and good human beings. Only those people who want to destroy the world, use religion as a mask, to preach other innocent people to do bad things.

In India and specially in my village 30% of Islam (Muslim) and 50% of Hindu rest other. We celebrate both festival jointly. Doing all daily activity together. Same with city and district. Even at my job many are Muslims. Normal Islam person not directly involved in this activity, only few people for their own profit divert some innocent people mind either by religious or for money. You are so right not only Islam, none of the religious teaches the bad act. None has right to kill someone even himself.

Catholicism always promotes respect. I think that's one of the very first things that you are taught when you are a Catholic in religion - you have to respect other cultures and other religions no matter what, and you can never judge them for their beliefs. With this in mind, I have never judged Islam, because quite frankly, I have no right to. What's sad is that the media always depicts Islam in a negative way, especially after 9/11, and I find that horrible. The actions of a few are not representative of a whole after all.
