Hi everybody. So.......I'm in this situation with my mother in law. She's been "sick" virtually since the New Year. She's been to a lot of doctors. They've run a bunch of tests and subscribed a bunch of pills. Basically, nothing's helped. I'm putting this post to see what you all might suggest as possible causes. Here are her symptoms........ 1. Fever 2. Sore throat 3. Depression 4. General lethargy 5. Lack of appetite 6. Cyst discovered in her throat, but OUTSIDE of her larynx or pharynx. 7. Headaches and pain in her neck. What the doctors have said: 1. It's not a virus. 2. It's not some sort of bacteria 3. The cyst doesn't have anything to do with her condition. 4. Take antibiotics.......which she has done to ad-nauseum and nothing has helped. 5. Gargle with warm salt water 6. Get lots of rest Blah, blah, blah. She's done everything they've said and nothing has changed. So, I'm wondering if my fellow myLotters have any suggestions that the learned medical community haven't thought of. Anybody????

Hello there veromar! Sad to hear for your mother-in-law's situation. It might be really so sad that her condition is still unknown. Doctor's are just human being who just based their diagnosis on the book. I am also in the medical field, I'm a Nurse. We are just an instrument of God but we do not heal their ailments. There should be a lots of test that is needed to perform so that we can rule out your mother-in-law's illness. Try to have for a second opinion.

I agree Craziest. Doctors are human. My only argument is that they've actually studied and trained to give diagnosis. You know? We trust them. We rely on them based on those facts. She's had a battery of tests. Still undergoing more as we speak...or write.... Bottom line is.......they have no clue. None. Have you ever watched "Dr. House"? I watch it all the time and am constantly amazed just how little doctors know. Yet, we spend hundreds monthly on insurance premiums to be able to go to them with our problems only to find that they can't solve them. But, without the insurance, it would cost us thousands more. She's had a second opinion, a third and is on her 4th or fifth. Still, no answer. Try this, try that is all they can say. It's frustrating and a bit alarming. We rely on doctors. Those who have studied. Those who are supposed to have the answers. What else can we do? Pray? Yep...we do that too.
