To the avid travelers from mylot, I just wanna ask your experiences with the people that you meet abroad. Who do you think are the friendliest and most hospitable among those places you have visited. I would like to share mine. From the 11 countries that I have visited so far, I would say my experience with the Taiwanese people were the best. I don't know if I am so lucky or is it that most of the Taiwanese are friendly. hehehe... I have been there for only 5 days but it seems longer. I like it that you see the side walk vendors are always smiling. The hotel and restaurant staffs are also cheerful and helpful. And even bystanders and local shop owners are very very accommodating. Never mind if they cannot speak English. If they do not know how to speak English, they will guide you to someone who knows. If you are asking for directions and they cannot express themselves, they will try to assist you if they can by leading the way. How about you? Who do you think are the friendliest?

I fell down a drain in Malaysia and badly injured my leg. I found the local people very kind and helpful to me. I stopped off the Pacific Islands and noticed people from both the Cook Islands and Fiji were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I found people in New Zealand warm and friendly. I liked Australian people's friendly chatting to me. I found them to be honest and direct.

From what I have been told from my cousin the Aussies are fine as long as you don't beat them at sport or settle in their country.

I have found friendly people in many places. but I have been specially at home in Ciudad de Mexico. I was helped everytime I needed: there always was some kind soul to help me reach where I wanted to go.

I think when people are on holiday they are in the best of moods anyway, with no work stresses so they project friendliness and most people around the world are proud of their countries and want to show friendliness so put them together and you have a wonderful experience, I myself haven't travelled very much, mainly around my own country in Australia and even thoughI am in my own land I think we Aussies are a friendly lot.

I haven't been travelling much outside of Australia & New Zealand, but the locals seemed no more or less friendly wherever I go. I did Stay in Taiwan once about five years ago. I can't agree with your experiences with the locals there. I was the only white guy there & people seemed very uncomfortable, even on the flight over there. They seemed to keep to themselves and mind their own business, which is good, but one was left with the impression that most of them really couldn't be bothered with working hard or doing anything to seem eager to help. It was surprising to me, as I thought they'd have the same spirit of working as the Chinese - very busy, very enthusiastic, very in-your-face, very efficient. The taxi drivers, the hotel lift operators, the shop keepers - all seemed to be made out of stone or something... I couldn't work it out! It wasn't the language barrier, as I carried plenty of business cards in Chinese with directions and spoke only in simple, single word English. Did I represent a threat to them?

I found the Catalan Spanish in Minorca very friendly and sharing but I would have upset them by calling them Spanish. Greeks all over are superb I have not visited all 1400 islands but the few like Rodes, Kos, Simmii and Crete have all been very friendly and helpful. The Germans are great in Germany and they keep their country very clean.
