Can Zambia Win Africa Cup of Nations?

It was great to watch Zambia playing against Senegal in the second match of the on going Africa Cup of Nations. The Zambians were a good team with a lot of quality. No wonder they proved the book makers wrong by defeating Senegalese by two goals to one. Senegal, one of the favourite teams tipped to win the tournament, was really disappointing to watch. The question now is: Can Zambia build upon the confidence gained by defeating Senegal and go on to win the cup at stake? It's possible. What is your own opinion?

no i dont..for me, they can`t win this tournament.. even it doesn`t mean i underestimate zambia..zambia had a good and positive progress in football development, but it`s not enough for being a winner in this tournament..

I watched the two matches played earlier today: Cote d'Ivoire vs Sudan and Burkina Faso vs Angola. I still feel that the Zambians, if they continue the way they started this tournament, are contenders for the coveted trophy. I was happy with the way the Ivoriens and the Sudanese played but the game between the Angolans and the Burkinabes was rather poor.

It will interest you to know that the Zambians that you wrote off are to play Cote d'Ivoire in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations!

The Zambians lifted the trophy! It is good to use the present form to rate a team and not on the past glory.

Zambia can not win africa cup of nations. These guys are good at the beginning, as the tournament progresses, they get weak and start losing games. Its just a matter of time.

I think time will tell but I still hold on to my view and I hope the Zambian players will improve with every game. Fortunately every team in the competition has played a game and the technical ability of each team can be reassessed. Did you watch Ghana played against Botswana? It was inexperience that prevented Botswana from earning a draw.

Zambia was a surprise at the last African Cup of Nations, in Angola. I remember they were playing very quick, with short and fast passes. I remember one of their best players were the Katongo brothers and Jacob Mulenga. I didn't see much of their match against Senegal, so I can't really comment on their actual performance, but if they play the same as two years ago, they have a chance. Their advantage is that they don't play under the same pressure like Ivory Coast, Ghana or Senegal. They came here to do their best, and therefore have nothing to lose.

Your comment was perfect! They play superbly and with a sense of purpose. The fact that many don't really expect them to be contenders for the coveted trophy make them to be more relaxed when they play. The team is a beauty to watch!

I think in this African Cup of Nations, Zambia definitely has a chance. For starters some of the so called big wigs in African football like South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria have failed to qualify. This gives a great chance of other teams to really cash in. But in my opinion the top favorites for this tournament are the Ivory Coast team. Cheers! Ram

I agree with you. The Zambians play the type of football that I like: vision, skills, quality and decisive. The Zambians I saw against the Senegalese don't seem like a team afraid of any national team from Africa!

Actually I do not follow the sporting events of African football. However, in my opinion, Zambia is not a team to be underestimated, may have talent and I'm not saying get to the final victory of the Africa Cup of Nations, but progress well in the tournament. My knowledges on the subject, stop here!

You are absolutely right about your opinion that Zambia should never be underestimated in this tournament. One feels that the teams that are considered as under dogs may spring surprises in the tournament.
