Is it bad that I find History painfully boring?

History has never been one of my favorite subjects in school and the only topics I liked were American History, ancient Egyptian civilization, and in 4th grade when our history was learning about the history of Florida. Last year, my academic adviser put me in a History class that covered a certain time period all the way up to World War II. The only part I found interesting was the two World Wars. Other than that I found it dreadfully boring to hear my teacher talk about the Victorian era and all those other things. I had to work my butt off in that class just to do well but I didn't really like the class. Now, this semester, I have to take History of Psychology. To me, this seems like another painfully boring class but it's required for my psychology major. So far, we've mostly covered Greek philosophers and I don't think it'll get much better. I know there are some people who absolutely love history. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them and I only like a very narrow range of topics in history. Do you like history, or only certain topics from history?

I don't like history that much either! That's why I took up engineering back when I was studying. I'd rather deal with numbers. I'm sure a few people here would say it isn't good, and that the only way to learn about the future, is by studying the past, etc., but I just found it hard as it took a lot of memorization.

It does take a lot of memorization...especially if you have to learn the dates and stuff. But I guess some of the other subjects require memorizing things to. The thing I think that matters most is how interested we are in the subject. If it's interesting to us, it's easier to memorize things and if it's something we don't like, memorizing is going to be harder.

I used to find history very boring and could barely pay attention to it outside of necessity. But I've found history far more interesting as I grew up and have some favorite historical figures. Though I guess the ones they are teaching in class are dreadfully dry. There's some history I remember that mainly talked about what they wore which was so dry. Though some revolved around major events, governmental distress, and it is interesting to me what struggles the country went through, not that some guy just traveled to sell stuff. I just think it depends on the subject matter of the history lesson.

It definitely does depend on the subject. I think there are certain parts of American History that I find interesting and I also liked learning about the World Wars. But other than that, what they teach us in school is somewhat irrelevant and extremely boring.

Not at all, I personally do to an extent too. I mean, it can be kind of interesting at some times - but names, dates, and events generally bore the heck out of me. I don't know what it is. I have a few friends who are majoring (in college) in "history" and I can't imagine why they would want to..But it's not everyone's niche. We all have different things we like and dislike. I've always been interested in reading (IE English Class was always my best class) and world languages have come easily to me (I took Japanese for 5 years) BUT History and Math were always a struggle in high school and college... Lol.

When I was in college I find History to be boring, but now I find it to be so amusing. I'm currently watching a historic drama and it made realize that we should not forget what did the primitive people did for our own country.

Everybody has different interests. A good example is me and my brother. I'm a real sport freak while my brother doesnt like sport and plays on his computer the whole day. Altough he wants to make it his job. If you don't like history then that's your choice. If you want to like it then you need to read a lot of books. If you don't like to read like me then don't :P

Lol that's a good answer. I guess we all have our favorite subjects...history certainly isn't mine.
