Most people have some amulets with them. It can be as simple as a cross or complicated as the magical amulets they bought overseas. Sometimes, the users do not dare to take off, because they fear bad things will happen if they discharge the amulets. Many people were told from young to put on certain items. Even if they do not believe, they just use it since their parents say so. Do you believe in the power of such religious amulets? Do you have certain lucky charms or pendants that you think will bring you luck and wealth?

No, Why do you even need amulets when God is there for us? All we have to do is call upon him and he will protect us from any evil there is. You don't need rosaries, wooded idols, or pictures to feel safe from anything. God is here... he will listen, not with repetitive prayers but with messages that will come from your heart.

Hi Hoodedboi, not everyone has the same concept about God. Ironically many religions do not encourage any representation of God, but the believers still need a physical item to remind them of God. Muslims are perhaps the only group that do not have anything at all, except the mosque as a place of worship. Their rituals of praying five times a day is a good reminder of God. Buddhism started off without anything. Representation of Buddha in any form was prohibited, but later on, the believers still started to make the images. Since then, the sale of amulets has created a huge market. Same with the sale of crosses, rosaries and other items.

I do not wear such things but I do believe they have power if they are worn by people who believe in their power. They provide support and reinforcement for a person's faith, something for them to focus on. When they need help the medal/amulet gives them a place to focus their thoughts and thus their actions might be positive rather than destructive.

Hi Dragon54u, if only people have such faith, then the world will be a better place for everyone. Since many people believe that the amulets have the special power to protect them, hopefully they are also reminded to do good. If they do evil, then no power is strong enough to protect them when retribution comes.

No. It's superstition to think than an inanimate object has any power. How can it? If there is any power at all, it comes from your own thoughts because you believe there is power. If we think a certain way, we tend to act that way and thus bring ourselves "good luck" also known as "results from our actions."

Hi Peavey, many people can give the same reasoning, even when they have many amulets with them. They say that they do not believe in such special powers or that the amulets look nice, and they use as decoration. However, in their heart, when they are in doubt, they rather have the amulets than without. It is common to see charms and other amulets in the cars. Those who wear the amulets usually believe in the items. Some people believe in the concept that if you are born in a certain month, you have to buy certain gems to wear. It is a form of belief in the protective power of the item too. Perhaps we all know that events beyond our control happen all the time. That is why most people rather believe that a book, such as the Bible, a cross, a Buddha statute or other amulets can offer protection, and bring good luck. It is definitely easier to put faith in such items, than to go to the temple or church for praying,

Amulets are quite popular here with many people wearing as many as ten of them at a time. I think they derive their power from the Dumbo effect. Dumbo, given a magic feather found he could fly. It was not the feather that enabled him to fly but the belief that he could fly that the feather fostered.

Do I believe in the power of any amulets? I don't think I do. It's all in the head, by my opinion. Do I wear a talisman or amulet for luck or protection? Do I want to ward off evil spirits? No, I don't wear one, never had. Wearing any amulets is the human desire for protection against evil spirits, and by wearing them, the owner believes it gives him the comfort and protection, brings him luck and wealth. Virtually, anything can become an amulet. It depends on the different beliefs in different cultures. Religious symbols are very popular amulets. I know some people who wear crosses, and they don't even believe in God.

Hi Grebsie, yes, many people wear crosses and they do not know even the Bible. They hardly enter a church to pray or listen to a sermon. Their faith means to use a cross, and trust that the cross has a special power to help them ward off evil. Some people put the bible in the car, thinking that having the bible is like a shield to protect the car and its owner. If only they can transfer the same faith to God, the world will definitely be a better place.

hi scheng, It was last year when I was always sent to the hospital for a sickness even good doctors cannot solve. My body grew very tired. That was the time I hesitated to drink medicine. I really hate the ambience in the hospital and the smell of the medicines until I decided not to go anymore. Then, I asked mom to just sent me to a faith healer. It was in the faith healer that I really get well. After that, he gave me something wrapped in red cloth. He told me not to take it away from me because it will save me from danger and from any bad spirits. Many months has passed by and I never get very bad health like before. I donĀ“t see anything wrong wearing what he gave me.

Hi Annierose, without the incident, you probably will laugh at people who wear amulets, and swear that these amulets are good for them. Now that you have experienced it for yourself, you will never throw away the amulets or items blessed by the monks or faith healers. I think it always takes this kind of incident to prove that many things are beyond our control. Rather have the items even if we do not really believe it, than not to have, and then something bad happen. Glad to hear that you are completely well already. Just too bad that you do not go to the faith healer in the first place. Such a waste of money to pay hospital, and still do not get well.

I think it may have some positive effect when you believe it to work. even simple pens, or pencils when you declare to yourself that the pen you are using is lucky for you, then somehow it becomes lucky, indeed.

Hi Chiyosan, haha, that is a good observation. If a person wins the mega jackpot in the country, and he says that is due to a new pen that he bought to write the ticket. The new pen will become a symbol of luck. He can sell it away for a few thousand dollars, and people will still want to bid higher and higher. The cost price of such a pen is probably a dollar or less. However, the story behind the pen will push the price high.

I'm not against on those who believes in amulets in fact here in my country there's tales spreading about our ancestors who won some battles and recognized the amulets who helped them as the tales goes. But living in the "Real World", I don't think, we should "just" believe on those. Faith should be first in line for me but I can't deny that I've been a fan of amulet magical tales when I was a kid. One of my "amulet" as I can call it is a "Holy Rosary". I felt my closeness to Him and to Mother Mary when praying. It's for me...

Hi Lhenni, actually it is in the Real World that we see people using all sorts of amulets. Some people can even swear how those items save them from certain deaths. Of course, people today do not use it to win battles or kill people. They use it in other ways, such as getting a good job, or getting a promotion, or winning the lottery or warding off evil etc. Holy Rosary has a role in helping many people get closer to God and Mother Mary. If you have used one for years, you would have found a special bond when you use the item to pray to God. I think it does not matter what item we use or wear, as long as we have faith, the item is just a reminder of our faith.

In all the countries, regions or cultures you do have some customs, some beliefs and the amulets support them. Moreover to me may be those amulets don't have any magical power but somewhere they become a source of motivation, and console us on my turns of life that ok everything's gonna fine.and if you are alone then too that amulet is with you.to me its just our belief. well i don't wear any and i do not have any such lucky charm also..i hope some day i get some.. :)

I actually do wear items that mean a lot to me weather one be religious or as simple as an item that was given to me by someone important in my life. I wear them at first because I might like it or have to but after a while I begin to believe that I would experience bad luck in some aspect of my life depending on the piece. The only way I would take off the items for good is if they break. I myself think its kinda silly but I do it anyway and keep believing it will bring bad luck to take it off.

Hi Recklessrainbow, yes, I can understand how you feel about it. Sometimes I have such feelings or come across someone with such feelings. Recently my mum has an experience, which is completely opposite. She got this amulet from a shop selling Thai amulet products. It is supposed to be lucky charm, but she did not have any good luck during the times she put it on. So she took it off, and she got very lucky. I think it is a matter of getting the one that really suits us. If the item is good for us, we feel a kind of special bond right from the beginning, and after a few years, we can feel the bond getting stronger. I think the reverse is true also.

Hemmm.. yes.. indeed not a few people who believe in amulets, like the people who believe in the power of magic, mysticism and similar. I personally do not believe in amulets, especially in my religion says that such a thing is a sin, because someone / person who believes in amulets would mean that the person is rely on an object, rather than relying on God). If there are people who feel lucky to wear certain objects or amulets, and feel bad if gets it off, I think it's just like a suggestion from his mind and heart, the more he believed in what in his mind and heart, the more it will look like what he think (in his mind and heart).. though the reality is not like that.

Hi Nurzaira, the problem is that many people believe items to hold a special power by virtue of their beliefs in God. They know that an amulet is just a material thing. However, they believe that the amulets remind them of God, and that God will bless them if they sincerely do good. Even books such as the Bible become the object with special power.
