If you fall for the myth that the big money in partisan corporate donations go to Republicans.. think again! The fact is, only 1 of the top 20 corporate donors goes largely to the Republicans. 4 Corporations split their donations pretty evenly. 12 of the top 20 are Unions. So Democrats, do you still want us to "follow the money" when it comes to political donations? (btw, The Koch Brothers? They only come in at #77.) http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php

Look at the wall street "criminals" and most gave to both parties but gave more to the Democrats. I find it interesting that the Democrats are hitting up the Rich Corp. for donations and then turn to the Unions for more money. Why do companies donate to the candidates? They do it not because they beleive what the candidate stands for but they are buying access to the candidate once they are elected. If you want to talk to your Senator or to the President and have influence, you have to be a a big donor.

Like Chris Dodd said.. when he buys a politician, he expects them to stay bought.

Yes I still want us to follow the money. Better yet I want the money out of politics. I never said both parties weren't to blame for this. Not only the donations that go to each party, but how about the money corporations pay for lobbyist to influence the politicians. How can we expect our politicians to govern fairly if they have side promises to all this money that was thrown their way to get elected. We all know politics is corrupt anyway. Why make it this easy for them to get corrupted? Plus it does not necessarily elect the best person for the job. It just elects the person who knows the most people with money.

I agree with your points here. But if you look at the chart, the biggest donors give their money predominantly to the Democrats. In fact, the biggest donations going mostly to Republicans isn't even in the top 25!

OK, What do you want me to do about it? I am not part of congress. All I can do is voice my displeasure on here. Do you want to praise the Republicans because more rich corporations like the Democrats better. They both are guilty and wrong here.

There's no "call to action" here. I'm only dispelling the total BS that the Republican party is just for "the rich" and the Democrat party is for the "little guy". As far as the parties themselves go, both need to be investigated under the RICO act.

Honestly I think our political system would be much better off if the corporations kept their money and used it on charities instead of political affiliations! But this is not likely to happen. It is just another example of "big money buying the elections", while the general population is not supposed to be smart enough to know that. On the other hand, as if this sort of thing wasn't enough, now we have the super PAC's large donations to help buy the elections as well. Pretty soon, votes won't matter unless you are a BIG donar to one or the other of the campaigns. SIGH.....we CAN at least complain to our reps, but lets face it....similar large donations helped get them in office too, so how hard are they REALLY going to fight against this sort of thing?
