I often notice that many people eat some fruit after their meal. Which is your habit of eating fruit, before or after meals? Please explain your reasons for doing so.

Fruits among dishes - Lots of food
I used to eat fruits after every meal but now I don't do that anymore.I've changed this eating habit after I read this one article http://healthy-and-evergreenlily.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-get-full-health-benefits-from.html, an excerpt says: " Eating fruits on empty stomach guarantees its detoxifying effect in our whole body system, and supplication of enough energy for the day. We should never eat whole meal with the fruits because once the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food just goes to spoil. Eating fruits with empty stomach will totally prevent the production of gas and hence no bloating of stomach at all. Each time we eat fruits after our meal, it is most likely to go burping soon after, or complain of stomach bloating, or even running to the toilet. This is because when the fruit mixes with the other food it results into production of gas that causes all these kind of problems." I now therefore came to decide that it is better for me to eat just fruits if I like fruits so I'd get the best benefit. So during breakfast I eat just fruits. During snack time I also do. I also do eat either just fruits or veggies at dinner and you know what I really feel light and healthy.

You are right. That's what I do, too. Once in a week, I eat only fruit for 24 hours. This is what we call fruit fasting. The benefit is really great. It's worth trying.

I eat fruit one hour before a meal. I like banana and papaya most. Try eating it 1 hour before your meal. See the difference. You can eat it 2 hours after a meal. You will find out how it will enhance your health.

I usually eat fruit after a meal. However, when we went to a restaurant amidst an organie garden at Tagaytay Highlands, while we are waiting for our meal we were given vegetable salad. I was surprised so i ask, why before the meal. And the lady explained that it should be that way, so the stomach could be cleansed before eating the main meal. Hence, after that incident i now would always eat a fruit or two before eating a main meal. I noticed that it made easy my waste disposal.

The lady was really good at it. She seemed to know the benefit of eating fruits before meals. If you eat it after meals, there would be any physical discomfort to be sure, but the fruit that we ate would not be digested as it should be. I was told it should be consumed 30 - 45 minutes before meal.

I tend to eat my fruits after a meal, everyone in my family does it and I kind followed along too. My idea behind it was fruits were the best way to end a meal and it helps the digestion so you can go to the loo after the meal. Having fruit after a meal is quite nice too, it gives me a sense of satisfaction, like a finale after my big meal. I have no idea why I eat it after a meal, it's just a habit now.

Yes, I used to do it, too. But since I know that eating fruit is best done before a meal I changed the habit. There is a difference actually. The meal tastes better if you have fruit before it.

If I eat fruit it's a separate meal. I don't eat it after dinner. It takes about 7-8 hours for a dinner (cooked meal) to digest. All that time the fruit is rotten in my stomach. It only takes about 30 min. to digest fruit. So fruit should be eaten alone or if.. before dinner.

You are right bro. That's what I've mentioned earlier. Why I've brought the discussion here because some people have different idea about it. And most actually eat fruit after a meal.

Hello yanzalong, I have this habit eating fruit before and after meals. I was influenced by my friend when we both eating meals after having daily long runs and cross training exercises. According to my friend, when eating fiber such as fruit before eating a meal, it helps absorbs retained fats and scrape off clogged waste in our digestive system before replacing it with food to digest. Eating fruits after meal, according to him it helps absorbs unwanted fats from a digested food and helps for good digestion. So everytime, I eat my meal, I eat fruit before and after meal.

I think there is no benefit if you do it after meal. The fruit even got destroyed and became rubbish inside. That's what I heard.

hi yanzalong I know there are all sorts of theories on the net each one claiming its the only way you should eat fru t blah blah blah but myself I do not take those crappy stories very seriously as they were not dietitians or scientists who know what the hell they are talking about but lay people out to make a dollar or two. If I have a banana in my room I will eat it at my evening snack time. at our meals we are served fruit as a dessert and so I eat it after my meals. so far I am fine.

What do you think of this statement I already read: "Greying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.". Do you happen to have one of these mentioned above? I am also like you. I eat my fruit whenever I like. Thank for sharing Hatley.

I eat fruit after my meals. :)) It's simply because eating fruit after takes away all the bad after-taste (if there is one) or that they seem to neutralize my taste buds. It's a refreshing. Feels healthy too. :)

I see. I remember eating some bananas after meals when I was a kid. And I didn't find anything bad . I've been feeling fine so far. What I read was that It'd be better if we eat it 30 minutes before meals. Why not try and feel the difference.

I tend to eat fruits after meal because they aid in digestion. IT's good to eat fruits before meal as well as it helps to keep us full so that we won't eat too much during actual meal. Both has their benefits, depending on what we want for ourselves. Fruits can be eaten any time of the day as long as we set our limits. After all, whatever vitamins found in meals, are found in fruits as well. That's why i have a fruits diet whenever i don't feel like eating.
