How many of you guys here know anyone who opts to not watching any TV? I went to a friend's place who lives by himself recently, and I notice that he does not have a TV set. No, it's not because he cannot afford it or anything like that, but he deliberately avoids watching TV. I don't think many are like him, or are there? Seems like everyone wants access to TV these days; I even know people sho has TV in practically every room in the house.

@sishy7 I don't really watch TV often at all but I do watch movies or TV series for background noise if anything. I don't like the silence all that much sometimes. Other than that I can't say I've known anyone to not have a TV. We could all totally survive without TV that's for sure lol Although I remember when I was little, I remember a friend saying "Oh my god I would DIE without TV." Silly.

Oh, I should update you on this friend... He got married and has a child now. I noticed he's no longer without a TV... I guess it was fine for him when he lived alone - but now that the he has a family I guess they can use a television...

I've read an article once regarding a person who, by choice, didn't have any TV sets in his home. Other than that, I don't know anyone, who can afford to have a TV set, do without them. I guess it's a cheaper way of entertainment and also a cheaper way to know what's happening around him. A PC plus internet connection could cost a bundle for a lot of people.

By any chance, does the article mention why that person chose to not having any TV sets?

I can't really recall. I read it I think two years ago :) I actually have forgotten about it till you posted this topic.

I used to not. I went for about a 6 month period without watching TV. It's not that I didn't want to, it's just that I didn't HAVE one. Or an internet connection. All I did during those six months were spend time outside, hang with friends, and READ. I probably read 20 books in that period of time, no joke. It's kind of refreshing, not having TV. I finally got one as well as bought a Netflix membership, so that's the only kind of 'TV' I watch now, and I'm not sure that counts. LOL. But it's kind of nice taking yourself away from technology for a while, sometimes.

It must have been refreshing; and apparently it's not something that you'd miss too much. Those other activities you were doing sound so much more enjoyable than watching TV.

I wish I could do without TV but unfortunately, I just cannot stop watching world wide news.

That seems to be the norm, most of us could not do without TV, for different reasons. I wonder then what would be the reasons for one to choose not to watch TV?
