Yeah, sometimes the OT pay isn't worth it when you quantify the extra amount you'd get vis-a-vis the additional expenses you'd incur for working longer hours like additional meals you might take. But one's health is usually what one should always consider. Studies have shown that working more than 8 hours can really be detrimental to our health.

When I was still entitled to OT pay, I had actually made a few excuses not to do extra hours of work. But I instead offered to do OT work on national holidays since by Philippine labor laws, we're entitled to 200% payment. So I really get the better part of the deal since I work the same number of hours but paid double :)

What happens there is that the OT pay you will be getting will go to your tax. It's really ridiculous and sometimes frustrating that after working hard to earn a little more, you will end up getting nothing. I acutally thought that before, here in the Philippines, they already passed a law that only the basic pay will be taxed but I guess I was wrong.

You are right. Having overtime work sometimes doesn't mean you will earn a lot from it. For example, if you go off work so late and you can't use any public traffic, you have to call a taxi and this is a big charge. Or you can't have a meal at home and you have to eat outside and this is an extra charge. And especially if you are ill because of the overtime work, your earning have to be paid for the doctor. I love China

You haven't mentioned what kind of a job you were doing. Why did you get so sick because of working overtime? I am used to working overtime bu have had such sickness.During overtime we were given food and drink, so I presume there should not be any serious problem. What we might get is probably lack of sleep or excessive tiredness.

OT is time consuming. But back then I don't really have a choice. My work didn't paid me enough so I depended on OT to add extra money. The only bad thing out of it was I was tired. I did OT for 12 days, and each of the day I need to work 12 hours shift. It's a good thing I didn't fell sick.
