Making changes within ourselves.

Let us rememember that the the only changes we can make are within ourselves. When trouble arises between ourself and a son or daughter, between ourself and a neighbor, between ourself and our partner, look to how we can find another way of dealing with the problem. Often the very things that we find ourselves condemning in others, we will also find within our own selves. Condemn others and we condemn ourselves. Work with others, speak in a calm and controled manner, and we achieve better results for all concerned. Who agrees?

Hi Pose: You are definitely right. We should not expect that other people change, but we can make an effort to change ourselves. Instead of complaining about the wrong things people do, we have the power to evaluate what can we do to make a difference and not just wait for others. Happiness is in our hands.

Especially in close relationships we often find ourselves responding before we have had a chance to consider how we should do that. These responses are vey often based on privious interactions and have often little or nothing to do with the present situation. The sooner we realize that this happens the better we can prepare ourselves for the next interaction. If we go into it with the intention of remaining calm and controled we have a much better chance of doing so. Certianly if we can do this the outcome will be much more useful then just responding in the same old way.

Hi Pose,
This is exactly what my mother taught me as a child. Her exact words were: what you don’t like in others is what you don’t like in yourself.
I have always tried to remember that and when I find something I don’t like in someone else, I try to work on me a little bit more, because it might be something in me that I really don’t like.
