How many of you read the labels on your food packaging?
I always looked briefly but more-so now especially with having a partner who is highly allergic to MSG and I am watching my cholesterol intake and dieting.
Do you look at your labels? If so, what do you look for?

I have allergies and have to read the labels - it is amazing the garbage that goes into our food and often for no valid reason - like a multivitamin with artificial sweetner or preservatives in plain water??? What do they need those for when other companies don't add them to the same item?
I have started buying items with the shortest ingrediant listing (as long as there is nothing I am allergic to included). The extra chemicals are neither needed or wanted.

There is a lot of hidden stuff in foods. It is usually in the names we can't pronounce!
That's a good idea about buying with the shortest ingredient listing!! I'm going to have to look into that myself.

ido see the labels and especially for some items like medicines, and the perishable items.I look for the manufacturing dates, expiry date, price(offcourse), then if i am researching for some new product i see the options available and the contents..too

Once in a while but not on all the products. And like you, I look at the MSG content. For some reason, foods with MSG makes my head hurt. But it maybe more psychological since if I'm not aware that the food I'm eating has MSG, it doesn't make my head hurt :) But I do however look for two things always. The best before date and where the product was made. I refrain as much as possible from buying food made in one particular country.

My boyfriend gets severe migraines if he eats anything with MSG in it. He said it took him a very long time and process to figure it out. Definitely the best before date is very important and I do prefer to buy local as often as I can.

No, I don't really read the labels. I couldn't read them anyway because my eyesight isn't good enough. I buy what I know I like. I plan to shop tomorrow, so I will get stuff to make lasagna, chicken Alfredo, and spaghetti... and also have other stuff. I just buy what I know I like. Tomorrow I'm going to Walmart, so I will get gallon size salad dressing and salsa as well as olives and pickles... and whatever else I want to get.

I look at the labels on food products. Once I know it is an item that I can use for my family I usually don't re-read it. Many people look at the labels but don't understand what they mean at all. I wrote an article that explains everything on the label in plain English that is easily understood. I know from the response I received it helped a lot of people.
It is important to read the labels. You get to control what you and your family consume and how much. You can plan a meal that isn't strictly starches, sugars or loaded with sodium. It gives you an edge to keep a grip on cholesterol levels so you can plan a healthy eating and lifestyle for your family.
Reading labels also gives you information to protect those with severe allergies from consuming food items that will affect their health and cause serious harm.
Reading food labels is a good practice!
