I've said many times that wars are futile and a waste of life and the First World War is the main culprit in that regard, killing off millions of men (and horses) in the battlefields.
"Birdsong" is a Sebastian Faulkes novel, apparently and it was adapted into a two-parter by the wonderful BBC. The second part was on earlier and it contained some horrendous scenes but not enough to stop you watching it, which was the whole point. People moaning online that there "wasn't enough mud in it" got on my nerves, to be honest.
The actor who played the main part of Stephen Wraysford is called Eddie Redmayne and he has the most gorgeous face I've ever seen BUT he can act. This is very important (obviously) lol. He and the other actors have actually been to a preserved trench to get into the mindset of the soldiers from that era and Eddie himself spotted a poem that someone had scraped into one of the walls..and he wrote it down and pretended he was the author during the trench scenes so he really got into the part. Anyone who says he was cold in the part has a heart of stone. He was totally the opposite in my view.
However, my main gripe in this drama was the mumbling that went on. The actual music in it was actually very good and didn't spoil my enjoyment at all..but the mumbling did and I'm not the first to notice it, unfortunately.
Having said that though, if it doesn't win a BAFTA I'll be amazed!
Have you read the book?

Judging by your speaking highly of Eddie Redmayne, He must have lived the part.I have never watched "Birdsong",still less reading the book in English.I am afraid it may take me five years for me to finish reading it,you know where my level of English is.We must curse war and prevent historic tragedies from repeating.

Apparently the book is over 400 pages long my friend. It's also got some French words in there as well which isn't my strong point!
Oh well, maybe one day we shall read it and we can ask each other what the words mean.

I can't see my way to read it.My English isn't up to reading it,much less it has some French in it.
