Traveling abroad is one of my dreams in this world. Before we travel, careful preparations should be made in advance, I am sure. Who those who often travel, would you give me tips on how to travel in order that my traveling is safe, enjoyable and nothing I miss out on? Thank so much for sharing.

What about money? Should I carry travellers check? Is it easy to change travellers cheque?

To travel overseas you will need to have a passport. You might like to fly by plane, go by train, travel on a bus or sail on a voyage. I advise you take a backpack instead of a suitcase. I think that staying in a locally owned guest house is ideal. If you have little money I suggest dorms in backpacker hostels and camping in your own tent. You money will stretch further if you visit cheap countries. Many budget flights are available these days and can make getting so your destination cheap. You could begin by looking at an atlas and writing down the names of countries you are interested in visiting. Good luck traveling abroad.

Thank maximax8, you seem to have travelled a lot around the world. Your info has been saved in my note and I'll look at it just in case I forget. I have collected all info from this discussion.

First of all, you should consider your own safety and pick pocket matter whenever you are traveling abroad. You might want to get all your documents and paper money in a fanny bag wrap around your waist. Then you might consider go with a group of people who can look after each other. Also, follow any advise from the travel guidebook and watch every step.

Should I change my money into travellers cheque? If yes, why should I change it? What if I just bring my dollars instead of changing it into travellers cheque?

I would suggest you take a visit to vacationstogo.com. Especially traveling abroad. Not only do you need passports for some destinations but also visas. BIG difference in the two. You will learn a lot on the site whether you are cruising, flying, going single on traveling vs chaperoned tours. There is a lot to think about when traveling abroad whichever way you decide to go. I just recently learned through reading on vacationstogo that if you were going in certain ports you would need a visa as well as your passport. I would assume you would need it even if you were not disembarking from the ship. I wish you good luck in your travels. My next biggie for me will be to see Alaska. I have always wanted to see the wilderness and glaciers from a cruise ship. So I am patiently waiting til 2013 for that. Happy traveling to you!

Thank for your information. That's very valuable. I dream to go to London. I once went there at the government expense. What do you think of London, is it worth visiting?

There are no safe traveling in this world but there's definitely enjoyable moments in every travels. There are many sources u can get information on the place u want to visit. More than often, travel agency do offer great packages, but they are usually expensive and time is not enough. If u are new to a place, join a tour group to familiarize yourself there, and if u like it there, u can always do a booking on your own, revisit it again but with an explorer mindset. ONline is another way of securing your information or travel sites such as Tripadvisor, Zuji and so on.

If I join a package tour, I will always in a group and won't be able to visit places on my own, right. And all are arranged by the tour agency like accomodation, meals, and places to visit. Sanitary, thank for this valuable info. Happy mylotting.

We all travel different. It depends on if you travel alone or with others (children for example). also where you intend to go to. Do you have some back up (travel agency for example), a travel insurance (if you get robbed, get ill and need to be transported back home or have to go to a hospital, a health insurance (or do you take the risk or take the most necessary meds with you in a travel kit?). It's always good to tell those you leave behind what (about) your plans are, where or how to reach you in case of need (unless you don't want to be found). and if it comes to money: try to find out how much you will need for sleeping, food etc. Or if you are able to work and travel at the same time.

Well, it sounds like a lot of things to be prepared. Maybe for the time being, I'd rather join a package tour. What do you think of that? What's the drawback of joining a package tour?

Hi! It is also my dream. However, I don not have that much budget to be able to that. I hope in time I will be able to travel abroad and I hope you will also fulfill this dream of yours. You must travel alone and check on websites that offer discount on tickets so you can save .
