I just got Hughes net satellite internet and I want to go wireless so that I can use my computer in other rooms, but I am not too sure about the wireless routers. Can someone fill me about wireless routers in using language that I can understand? Do I need to use a special kind because of the satellite internet? I can't afford to spend a huge amount of money for the router and any necessary equipment, any recommendations???
Thanks!

Okay, I admit I am NOT the BEST one to tell you anything technical, but one thing I didn't find out, if you want a good wireless router, look to spend at least 45-50 dollars. Here is the one I got and all I needed was my son to install it..lol

Too bad I don't live near by, I am well known for being a techno-geek. People that need things fixed or computers brought back to life come to me. It all stems from my playing with my brother's erector set when I was a kid!! He never played with it but I built tons of stuff and played with it nearly daily.
I thought I would go on ebay for a router, but will check at Wal Mart. I have to buy a new phone because the one from ATT isn't answering the calls anymore. I want one with different ring tones as I am soooo tired of the ones that sound so frantic that are on the one I currently have. Plus I would like to get one that has extra handsets so that I don't have to carry around the one in the bedroom.
BTW, did you read through your responses to the hard drive? Let me know through PM.

I'm going to guess that your internet goes through a modem like everyone elses... you just hook up the router on the "out" side of the modem and make sure you have a comparable "antenna" on your computer to pick up the signal...
I know you don't have any near neighbors, but you might want to password protect it anyway - so truckers don't park nearby and "steal" your signal - that puts them on your IPN and if they do something illegal, you could in trouble...

I'm not too sure if the raccoons are computer savvy, and my next door neighbor isn't in too often but I told him that he could catch my signal when he is here. I don't have to worry about truckers (of course you never know about those pesky raccoons...they do surprise you at times! ;-) I went satellite which would translate to DSL in town. It was fun being quizzed about the possibility of getting DSL out here- which might happen in a hundred years since we don't have too many people living out here and we live so far from the nearest town.
Thank you for the information, going wireless is new to me, but I also want to be able to use my new Kindle Fire that Bill bought me for Christmas and by going wireless I can do that too. I will use a password to protect it though. My homeowner's association is considering going WiFi and I really don't want it to be through my unit...the neighbor will be the only one with the password. Thanks too for that thought.
