Oat Bran or Oat Bran Cereal

I like to substitute a little oat bran for flour in some things that I make to make them healthier. One problem I have is that one store sells oat bran for $2.49 a lb. and another sells oat bran cereal for $1.29 a lb. As far as I can tell the difference is that the more expensive one that goes just by oat bran is ground finer and has close to no unwanted husks that aren't bran. But the less expensive oat bran cereal is ground much courser and has a few black pieces that I'm guessing are husks and that can be hard even when cooked.

I think the best option is to go with what is cheaper for that week. A lot of times stores have some deals on different cereals and stuff like that. Coupons help too. If you have to ground the cereal up a bit more it doesn't seem too much of a bother. You can do it by the cup, so if you use two cups that day just take a ziploc bag and a mallet of some sort and whack it a few good times.
Maybe stocking up would be good too. I work for a grocery store and sometimes we have BOGO (buy one get one free) on our cereals and people stock up on them like there's no tomorrow. Most of the time there is a limit of four on something like that.

I'm not talking about an actual cereal sold in a box or something. This is in a bin where you scoop out and weigh how much you want like a grain or something. Often it would be found in the organic or health food area. There are no coupons and no sales. I don't use a lot at a time, something like 2 and a half tablespoons maybe. Even the course type is relatively fine and would be hard for me to grind finer. It is very dry where I live and for both types static electricity is a problem in handling them.

I would probably test out a little bit of the less expensive oat bran. I'm assuming that you're looking at oat bran sold in bulk, not prepackaged. If that's the case, I would buy a small quantity of the cheaper variety and incorporate it as usual. If it works, great; if not, it's not a big deal.
