I am a staunch catholic. I believe in practicing my faith and when someone asks me for my good deeds which faith do you belong, I proudly tell them i am the soldier of Christ Jesus. I may not remember the bible by verses and by letters and books but whatever I know, i follow it thoroughly. On the contrary i have some friends who know the bible on their tongue. I mean who said and when everything but i am not judging anyone here, if it comes across as such, then I am sorry but these friends of mine had good jobs and now they have left their jobs which God had blessed them with and when i asked them they said God has said that he provides for every person again quoting from the bible the exact verse which i am not good at But the bible also says that if you don't earn you have no right to eat. So then we always end up in arguments and i give up because i know it leads nowhere. This is just one example that i have given here. There are many such things which makes me think. Has anyone come across such group of people who quote the bible for their own convenience? Again, we are not to judge anyone fellow being but i would like to know how to deal with these groups.

That means you have no practice since your knowledge is also poor. :D (just kidding)

Anyone can use the verses of the Bible to justify virtually anything they want to do. Using verses out of context is a classic trick of deception for those who haven't committed to study the Bible for themselves to be able to know what it really means. Studying and knowing the Bible is a life-long pursuit, IMO.

I am a catholic too.All my family members are catholic too. In my child hood we were supposed to mug-up many prayers, Ten commandments etc. But after growing up I tried to read Bible. I tried to understand the teachings of Jesus. I am sure from Bible one can understand that Jesus never came to start a religion called Christianity but to establish a relationship with GOD and man. He was GOD himself in human form. Group, sect, or denomination can never take a person to heaven. You may be any where, in any group, if that group is not giving you enough support to get close to Christ, better change the group. Be united to Christ than get glued to any group. You have to be church not the building. Because God never stays in man made building, but in the hearts of people. Invite Christ to your heart ,repenting for every sin you did. Jesus will come and dwell inside you. That is what Jesus wants. I am sure Jesus Christ is not interested in the banners. We dont need to deal with anyone. Thats not our job.God will deal with every one.

thank you Globalsheen for your response. You rightly said that Christ is not interested in the banners and that we do not need to deal with anyone. God is the one who judges us by our deeds. We have practice our faith. Thank you Globalsheen

Thankyou maria, thats why I prefer to follow the Bible than to follow any group including my own catholic. I try to see it thru the Word of God. If it tallies I will accept. Otherwise I dont. I have not found rosary in Bible. So I dont use it. Bible tells not to Make any idol ,not to bow down to them, so I dont. Over years many things get added to Christian practices. But God and His principles remain same.

I'm also a Catholic, but I've been taught that the verses in the Bible can only be understood if you really have faith. I mean, when your faith is weak, you might misinterpret what was written. And this I believe has happened to a lot of us Christians. Each sect of Christianity insists on their interpretation of the verses. Some even took it literally. I have encountered different groups of people that have different interpretations from what I believe in, but I've always avoided debating with them. I leave it to their faith.

Thanks for the reply. I guess i should avoid debating with them and leave it to God. As you rightly said each group, each sect has its own way of interpreting the Bible. So for them maybe i am wrong and misquoting it and for me vice versa. We are here not to judge anyone right. So best would to be to let each one do what he believes in. Thanks once again.
