Would you name your pet with a Celebrity's name?

I've come across once a dog was named by a popular leader. And I wondered why on earth she chose that name. Whether to honor the dog or to insult the leader? (She didn't know that she got a bad impact on her attitude itself. Many people, are treating her indifferent after they know the pet's name.) I think some people are crazy enough to name their pets with celebrities' names too. I won't agree on that unless the name is a common one for pets. Would you name your pet with a celeb's name or popular person's name? Or would you agree if someone does it?

good day venkataraman_vc, with reference to your query, here at our end, we take it very carefully when we are naming our dog. hence, we take all the do's and don'ts of it. hence, it is not advisable to name the dog or pets according to peoples names' although some are still doing that. and whenever we named our pet, we are really looking on the book of names intended for pets.

I think it is alright to name my pet with a celebrity's name. I don't think it is something wrong with it. Since the pets are ours. We have the rights to decide names for them. But I name my pet with a cartoon character's name instead because I am not so interested in celebrities. I love China

In the near future, If I will have my own pet then I will name them with a Celebrity's name. I will name them in honor of my Korean Celebrity crushes such as Lee Min Ho, Jang Geun Seok, ang Kim Nam Gil. My aunt do have a dog and they named it with a Local celebrity name.

I really don't understand this. If I admire a celebrity and if I see anyone having a pet with that name, it will definitely sound weird to me. In my opinion, people just have pets as a means of outbreak of their emotions. If a pet named by a celebrity and treated badly, isn't that an insult to that celebrity? (Or if your pet does something you don't like, what would you do? Accept it just because you love the celebrity?) Please understand I posted here nothing in the offensive accent. (Even if it sounds so anywhere, that may be because my language. Definitely I'm not offending.)

I'm not offended with your response. It is up to you on how you think. It wouldn't be an insult to a celebrity. Pets are pets and they are here to entertain and had some fun with us.

hi, I don't have a pet but i don't mind to call a celebrity's name... as there is nothing wrong with the name but yes, we have to make sure it is not hurting anyone's sentiments. Like the first response, Tom is fine but what if someone is hurt because of its name?

Yes. Tom, may be common, but it may still hurt someone. But, probably it's not a common name for people in my country, there may not be a problem in my country. (Yet, I'd like to have names that are not commonly used for people.) Like, naming them by their color would be just fine.

Agreed, in India we alway try not to hurt others by such deeds, but if i being a simple human being call my pet any popular hero/heroin's name... it will not matter them in anyways, but yes, their fans may not like this attitude of mind, leading to some conlficts between ourselves. Calling by their color would be funny too... wow.. pinky, rosy, brownie, blacky...LOL. Have a nice time.

I don't see that as an insult. A name is just a name. The celebrity is one of the people using the same name, exception with weird name that people probably don't name their child after. Unless it's a name that's bound religion, then I see a problem. For any other names, anyone can use that name and no one should feel insulted. I used to have a cat named Naruto. It was a fat and lazy cat, nothing ninja-like at all. My neighbour named his cat Syasya. There's a local singer named Syasya and I thought he was a fan. It turned out the cat only respond to that name and he didn't even like that singer.

If it is a name of respected one? Say for example a person who fought for the rights of a race / country. Isn't it an insult to the entire race/country? You know the High Priest of any religion, what if that name is chosen by anyone who don't belong to that religion to name his/her per? If anyone does choose those names, definitely I see a serious attitude problem with that person. (However, I don't take it as an insult. Because people trying to insult the elites, finally end up in getting insulted themselves.)

My cat name is Tom and it comes from the cartoon "tom and jerry" but my Tom is not so fool.. Well, if it touches some celebrities like Tom Moody, Tom Alter then its just co-incident. I am not disrespecting them anymore. Have a nice time.

I think Tom is a common name for pets. But naming a odd celeb's name, though they have the right, is related with one's attitude I think.

People sometimes name their children after celebrities or in honor of..., since i consider my pets to be members of our family so I find nothing wrong with it, think the only exemption would be if it's named after Gods or deities or religious figures that some religious sectors that I'm aware of would find offensive, so that is what I never do, anything that would hurt other peoples feelings then I would not name my pet after that.

You have a point. But, in our country we see pets as just animals. May be it's a family member for the owner of the pet, but for others it's just an animal. And we consider it weird if someone names his/her pet with human names.

Well I guess it's just another case of difference in culture and I think that's very understandable friend, here we tolerate people naming pets the way they want in like manner they respect our choice but again no stepping on the line and it's mostly if not all about religious beliefs.

I do not have any pets in my house. I suggest we should keep ordinary names and not names of important people or personalities or God's names.

I have no comments. And I can't imagine how a human with that name will take it. (Probably your neighbor may not mind whatever feeling it gives to others, but that is a different issue.)

It is hard to say If I would name ny pet with a celebrity name. It is not my style, I think there is enough name for a pet, and there is no need to name them with name of some living person. But this decision must be made by owner of the pet. But no wonder, even some parents name their children with a mames of celebrites. I think that is more ridicoulous.

Well. I too find it odd to name children with celebrities' names, but at least parents won't treat their children bad. And other people won't take it personally even if they see it. But naming a pet with a person's name, somebody may take it personally.

Yes, why not. The celebrity's name. It could be a name. But It would be better not to call the pet with a name of famous one.

I would rather prefer naming them by their color, like someone here said "pinky", "brownie" etc. Whatever name we call it, the pets are not going to mistake us. But, the humans sometimes may feel offended if they find a pet with their name. Better not to play with one's feelings.

Some people get their pet's name on their favorite celebrities or character in a drama series. In our family, we have cats and dogs but we don't get their names from celebrities. I don't know where my mom got those names.
