Free shots for your children (USA)

My youngest son is about to start preschool. Since he just turned four (and we moved to another state) he's going to need his four year old shot. We have insurance but it's going to take longer since I have to get his records from out of state mailed to the new office. We all know how much longer it would take after that due to the office having to create a new file for each child and schedule an appointment for them. It's a pain. My mother in law informed me that if you were to contact your local health department and get their hours and locations, you can have your child's shots done for free provided it's for school. I like that! That's my tax dollars hard at work. ~Stjarntydarna

My local heath department does not give shots for free. I wish they would because then I'd be more inclined to get the flu shot for our family. I was told though they were $7 which isn't bad til you realize my kids needed 2 doses and then it wasn't a deal because their regular Dr charges $15 a flu shot (if more than one dose is required it's on the house or equal to the heath department) w/ our insurance anyway. I was so upset about that last year!
