In Indonesia, we have some people who go from one place to another, offering service to fix your shoes. Sometimes, they just wait on the pavement, usually near the market place. My question here is what do you call the person who does this kind of job? Shoe fixer, shoe repairer or others? Please share.

Well I live in India and here we also have people who go from one place to another offering service to fix shoes and people who have a particular place where they sit and have all the necessary items fix shoes and people come to them to get it repaired.I usually go the nearest shoe repairer as i don't like to wait for them to come and there is no fix time when they come.

i usually would throw out my shoes that have been worn out. the truth is, it is really much worst fixing them than buying new one because it may turn out much more expensive. i had this experience once in my shoes so then i just threw it away and bought a newer and latest shoe design.

I agree with you. Wearing shabby shoes sometimes make me ashamed as well. Everytime I come across friends, they usually throw their eyes on my shoes. Lol.

I live in a small village, and one of the little shops that we have is one that repairs shoes. Because of this, I am lucky as I could just take them there and get them sorted for relatively little. However, I only really buy cheap shoes anyway, and this means that I would probably be more likely to just buy a new pair of shoes than I would to get anything repaired. In this day and age, things are so cheap that there is no particular reason to be spending a lot of money on fixing things when you could buy a new pair for just a little bit more.

Where do you live? In Zone 4,5, or 6. I stayed in Zone 1 some years ago for 5 months. I didn't find cobblers there or probably I hadn't seen them yet as I didn't go to many places. Nice chatting to you, guy.

Most of my shoes are beyond repair if they are worn out. I usually use up a pair of good leather shoes in three to five years time. No point repairing. The only time when I go for repair is for new shoes that get wet, and the sole comes out. These are the cheaper shoes, and the glue is not good enough to keep the shoes together.

I had my shoes cobbled once. I couldn't wear them more than 2 weeks. They were not comfortable any more. So, if we have enough, getting a new pair is better.

I have a lot of ballet shoes that needs repair but if I can repair it myself then I repair it myself. It is pretty expensive to have someone repair it so I try to do it my self. There are lots of shoe repairmen on the streets but the thing is they can only sew or glue them and not really the meticulous stuff.

What most people call this person? shoe repairmen or cobbler? Is it easy to find shoe repairmen in your city? In my city, there is only one person in the traditional market. He not only repairs but also sells shoes.

Trades person because they have a skill that not everyone can do and it requires physical work to make a good product. How good they are at the work will determine just what kind of a quality trades person they are. Anyone can be a plumber but it takes a good plumber to keep your feet dry.

I see. Do shoe repaimen flock together in a special corner of a market or they scatter around the place? Thank for sharing.

Clobber is what we called them. There are still clobbers plying their trade on the streets and they are usually old men. Some are still working to pass time while others are out there to earn a living. Most of them are charging much cheaper than what we find in shopping malls. In terms of quality, both are on par. When it comes to complicated repairs, it's best to visit those in malls as they have the technology to make it better.

No I have never done that, I always get/wear a new or other pair. I tend to wear my shoes til they fall apart anyways, although I have others to wear too. But I seem to favor one or two pairs the most. I remember going downtown with my grandmother alot as a kid and to the shoe repair place, she liked having her shoes repaired in those days. I wouldn't bother with it nowadays unless I really really loved the shoe and could never part with it.

Where are you from? What do you call a person who repairs shoes? Why don't you buy a new pair instead of having them fixed?

If my shoes are worn out or torn then I throw them away and buy a new pair since it is cheaper to buy a new pair of shoe than to have it repaired. The person whodoes this kind of job is cobbler or shoe repairer as others mentioned above in the discussion. Here, we have a small repair shop in a nearby mall where they do things like these
