i was engaged to one. his whole family was a mess of DFed witnesses. on the surface they seem really nice, but generally, they are nice because they are taught you should be nice to everyone, or at least accomodate them even if you don`t like them or agree with their beliefs. because people are people even if they refuse to join your religion. i think another myloter who said they were brainwashed has the right idea. in a way, it`s like a cult. they are taught certain things that can never be changed. for example, things in life evolve. there have been adjustments made to the bible writings, so it would be normal that all religions or history books could make adjustments with the advent of new information or new technology. but the witnesses still den many of these possible changes. they are set in the old fashioned way of thinking and don`t have room for argument. my ex seeemed like the sweetest and most amazing person when we first met, but he warned me there was an evil demon hiding deep inside him. when the demon came out, he was the most horrible human being i hve possibly ever met. and he talked the same way about his own relatives. at first he didn`t even want me to meet them for fear they would taint me with their perversity. to me just seemed like average people, but he insisted they were evil. to me, they all just seemed very confused about everythign in life. what they were `sure` of was actually a delusion, as some of them who left the religion finally understood. but being a witness for most of their life, they had to re-learn how to live like a real person. just like someone would have to do after being brainwashed and coming out of a long comatose state. i felt really sad for most of them, because the more powerful witnesses manage to convince the weaker ones to join their religion. these weaker ones seek refuge from a life they don`t feel comfortable in, such as they are being abused, they are unsuccessful at work, they have addictions, they lost loved ones, you name it! my ex was this kind of weak spirit, who needed guidance. but unfortunatel the guidance given messed him up worse than it helped.

My mom and sister are Jehovah's Witnesses. I can honestly say that the people are very nice that are Witnesses but they are fooled by the teaching of Charles Russell their founder.

I don't know anyone but what scares me is when you hear in the news about how they are against blood transfusions and they would rather let their family member or baby die rather than get one. That's where I would draw the line.

they believe that since most of the transfusion is plasma, a volume expander, that the transfusion could be made without the use of blood itself. it isn't exactly like they want to let someone die because of a transfusion denial, but in the end, it usually comes to that, because a normal hospital will not go to the trouble of separating blood from plasma ;)
